Polling results released by an Alabama-based, nationally respected data firm on Monday show that both former Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville and former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions would enter a general election battle against U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) with a sizable lead.
Cygnal, recognized as the nations most accurate polling firm during the 2018 midterm cycle, conducted a survey of 530 likely Alabama general election voters from June 13-16.
The survey had a margin of error of ±4.26%, utilizing a probabilistic mixed-mode method that included Interactive Voice Responses (IVR) from landline phones as well as SMS text-message and email responses. Cygnal is not working for a candidate or PAC involved in Alabamas Senate race.
The survey showed that Tuberville would beat Jones by a larger margin than would Sessions.
The general election survey included respective ballot tests between each potential GOP nominee, Jones and independent candidate Michael Parrish.
Sessions would garner 44.70% in his hypothetical, compared to Jones at 35.20%. Another 17.50% of respondents were undecided, and Parrish took 2.70% of the vote.
Meanwhile, Tuberville received 49.70% in his general election scenario, with Jones at 35.70%, 12.70% undecided and 1.90% for Parrish.
Comparatively, Sessions would beat Jones by 9.50%, while Tuberville would beat Jones by 14.00%.
Breakdowns of the data show Tuberville fairing better than Sessions against Jones across almost all demographics.

The Judge Moore screwed up the election last time. People were not going to vote for Jones and a lot of them also wasn’t going to vote for Moore, thus Jones won. Without that crap going on, Jones would have lost. A lot of people stayed home, tired of the Moore drama.
Yup, JONES is T-O-A-S-T!!! He kissed the liberal asses every day while in the Senate. Time for this scum to go!! He approves of murder of unborn children. HE HAS TO GO!!!
Sessions was an idiot for recusing, no doubt. But he is likely a far stronger gen election candidate.
Amen brother!
a good Tube versus a failed “boob”.
yes a good thing because we need the senate and we have to be careful about attacking Rinos-just look what happened in the House whene we dont have control
What other Senator are you talking about?
I have the memory of a 110 year old man. But for a FReeper, i looked it up
I typed in scandal, democrat, senator :)

That’s the link
it’s Hickenlooper And I think it’s more a problem of him losing the primary than us picking up a seat, sadly.
But at least he’s having some issues.
Sessions was never the Senator he should have been. He never had a Conservative Index or ACU ratings approaching 100 which should earmark Alabama senators. My wife and I heard Sessions speak at CPAC 2009 when he stood in for the injured Phyllis Schlafly. He was the worst speaker at CPAC. He has no fire at all. His time as AG could not have been more limp wristed.
He knows the business of making laws, and he might not have been rated 100, but he knows his way around and will not try grandstanding like Mittens or McCain, bucking his party to get media attention. He’s not a media darling. Never meant to be. Just a solid enough vote, definitely against illegal immigration and sanctuary cities and the like, which is why he was an early Trump supporter, back when everyone else thought Trump was just clowning around. Along came a seasoned Senator with the gravitas. A football coach is great...for coaching football. The Senate, however is a real blood sport, except it’s not any fun, either.
An inexperienced Senator needs to hire an experienced LA (Legislative Assistant) away from an established conservative senator. Then he should be good to go. I worked in Washington. When Admiral Jerimiah Denton started he was called “The Unguided Missile” but he did better than Sessions, even with Denton’s health problems.
And should Tuberville start grandstanding for the TV cameras like a McCain or a Mittens, all the experienced legislative assistants in the world will not help. What’s needed is a fillibuster-proof majority, and it’s doubtful we’ll get even that. So better to go with a safe non-RINO than an unknown quantity. Jones’ election in Alabama was a disaster, owing to Judge Moore’s olden-days attraction to 12-year-olds from back in the days when Jerry Lee Lewis had already gotten his goose cooked for marrying one (sorry, she was 13 and a cousin), and his (Moore’s) ignorance of immigration issues. And that was brought about because Trump wanted Senator Sessions for AG. Train wreck and a half. Better to put Sessions back where he belongs. He is a useful man in some capacities. Tuberville would make a good Congressman for Alabama.
Right, well if Hinclkepooper loses to his more radical primary challenger, that would certainly help Cory Gardener hold his seat. (And holding a seat that’s been all but written off is ALMOST like a gain)
It happened in 2016 with Ron Johnson coming back from the dead against Russ Feingold.
That’s for not calling me a moron even if you thought it :)
I thought hickenlooper was already senator :)
It’s bad but I dont think I could name more than 15 or so senators.
lol
In 2010, Tuberville was a co-defendant with John David Stroud in a lawsuit brought against TS Capital LLC, which the two had founded. The lawsuit was filed by investors and alleged that Tuberville and Stroud co-managed a hedge fund that defrauded investors of $1.7 million. In October 2011, the Business Conduct Committee of the National Futures Association, a self-regulating industry organization, took “emergency enforcement action” to permanently bar the firm from soliciting, accepting, transferring or disbursing any funds from investors. Stroud was found guilty in August 2013 of securities fraud, and was ordered to pay $2.1 million in restitution and serve 10 years in jail. The case against Tuberville was settled on October 10, 2013, but terms were not disclosed.[
Tuberville is a carpetbagger who just moved to Alabama two years ago.
Tuberville may be running outside the entrenched political system in Alabama but he's no "carpet-bagger".
