As a Pasco County Sheriff’s Deputy, Sean Kennedy spent 25-years following the law and enforcing it. Now he’s found himself in a position where he feels he must break the law. More specifically, a by-law for his community association.
Kennedy lives with his wife and children in the Foxwood subdivision in New Port Richey. It’s a deed-restricted community where lawns are neatly mowed and cars are parked in garages.
Over Kennedy’s garage flies a blue lives matter flag, the homeowners association recently told him he had to take it down.

The flag looks just like an American flag with the exception of black stripes and a blue stripe for law enforcement and a red stripe for firefighters.
“People don’t really understand that flag. It’s nothing to do with police,” said Kennedy. “It’s police that have been killed. The meaning of the flag is to support police that have been killed. Not police that are active right now working. “
Neighbor James Adams doesn’t understand why the association is all of a sudden asking Kennedy to remove the flag.
“I understand that there are certain guidelines and bylaws that we have to follow,” said Adams. “But that’s a little much.”
Kennedy believes he understands the timing. A member of the association told him someone complained. “I think it’s self-explanatory what’s going on in the world.,” said Kennedy. “The hatred of the police because of one horrible action by a guy in Minnesota just tarnishing everybody.”
Kennedy says a number of neighbors have weighed in and support his right to fly the flag. He says he has no intention of removing it.
“I’m not taking it down. It’s something I’ve worked for for 25 years and I believe in, so, and it’s definitely not racist, it’s definitely not hatred,” said Kennedy. “It’s a tribute to law enforcement officers and firefighters who died.”

What a whiny bitch this guy is. Man up buddy. He Supports Dead Police but not Live Police? WTH is that about?

Most HOA’s fold like a cheap suit when threatened with legal action. Hire an attorney and send them a nice note. Let them know you’ll be filing a suit against not only the HOA, but each member of the Board as well. See how fast the ‘Karens’ backtrack.
Why buy a house with an HOA?
The Karen’s that live there literally have nothing better than to bitch about someone not conforming to the rules.
Rules that they ALL are aware of.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would buy a house that comes with a homeowners association. I’d live 50 miles from where I work before I’d ever do that.
I rather live under an Interstate.
That depends on the state and local laws around the HOA. Ones in Florida and CA are particularly powerful.
HOAs need to be banned.
Never, ever buy a house subject to a homeowners association, EVER.
when people are either crowded together (like rats) in cramped multi-tenant buildings or in such “managed” tract developments, they almost always are subject to the dictates of an “homeowners association” -— sort of like a Communist Cuba Block Cell Enforcement Bureau.
of course, in most such places some sort of manager is needed to collect contributions towards common maintenance and repairs of common facilities plus insurance on same, etc.
A solution for many people is simply avoid moving into places with HOA’s
in reality some are managed quite well and some are managed quite poorly or in a dictatorial/fascist manner.
either way, its yet another level of “government” or dictats against the individual, and it must be noted an extremely close-by authoritarian office, too
we had a good friend who was served with foreclosure documents on his condo over a $25 fine that the HOA claimed was overdue them
again, when there are many common facilities and some other times too, some sort of association can be needed. I realize this and that some are well managed. But if the wrong sort of folks get in charge of an HOA, they can make your life very difficult, just saying

It’s all about maintaining your property values. I am one of three on a board for our subdivision and we must approve home building plans, maintaining division covenants etc.
We are in a battle right now with some imbecile who wants to put up a pole barn on his lot LOL. Average home here is close to a million so we have to protect our investment.
Nothing in the covenants against flying a flag though with the exception of displaying anything obscene.
If you buy a house or condo subject to a HOA then you abide by the policies or move out.
Well, the HOA flag rule works both ways. Ours allows only US, state and POW flags. I’m pretty good with that. Sorry, but I’m pretty sure he was aware of the rule when he bought in.
HOAs are communism.
If you don’t want to be subject to this kind of BS, don’t live in a place subject to HOA. It’s not that hard, HOAs are completely voluntary associations.

HOA’s don’t need to be banned, they need to be eschewed. Nobody can force you to buy in.
