CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels issued a warning to people who may be thinking of bringing violent protests to the area.
In a video posted on social media, Daniels said the statement is in response to the nationwide conversation about the strained relationship between police and the community.
“Is it a threat? Absolutely not, but somebody has to step up in front of the camera and say enough is enough. Tearing up Clay County? That’s not going to be acceptable and if we can’t handle you, you know what I’ll do? I’ll exercise the power and the authority as sheriff and I’ll make special deputies of every lawful gun owner in this county” Daniels said.
Action News Jax contacted the sheriff’s office to see if there have been reports of violence at civil rights protests in the county. We are waiting to hear back.

I lived in Clay County for 13 years.
I assume they’re talking about the Orange Park and Green Cove areas.

Since governors and mayors are surrendering and supporting insurrection I guess it is up to the people, their closest representatives the Sheriffs.

Sheriffs around the country would be wise to recruit and train a cadre of volunteer "Reserve Deputies" that could be activated when needed. Establish training requirements for use of force, escalation of force, marksmanship, etc.
I know a lot of Sheriffs have a "Sheriff's Auxiliary", but every one I have seen is nothing more than a donation for a sticker, or a bribe for a CCW. The Coast Guard operates a highly organized auxiliary that has thousands of volunteers that provide their own boats, equipment and time. They have contributed to thousands of rescues, searches and recovery operations.
Sheriff. Sigh.

Jax. My hometown. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office used to be filled with some real chit kickers. If you tried any crap, they would not hesitate to beat you down. The locals wholeheartedly approved. North Florida is the heart of Dixie.
