A Florida sheriff says he’ll deputize lawful gun owners in the event BLM protesters overwhelm local police forces, according to WTSP.
Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels announced in a Tuesday video that he will “make special deputies out of every lawful gun owner” in the county if he has to.
In the three-minute video, the northwest Florida sheriff calls out “the mainstream media” and protesters as godless dissidents. He tells people to not “fall victim to this conversation that law enforcement is bad, that law enforcement is the enemy of the citizens that we’re sworn to protect and serve.”
Daniels then talks about law enforcement taking an oath “to support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and the government…And we end that with, ‘So help me God.'”
“But God is absent from the media’s message or Black Lives Matter or any other group that’s making themselves a spectacle disrupting what we know to be our quality of life in this country,” Daniels says.
Next county over from me. Allota ‘necks over there. Doubt blm will be a problem there.

Many people don’t realize sheriffs can do this.

Geez, this guy has no idea of FL geography. Sheriff Daniels is my county Sheriff. Clay county is North East FL.

Question: Is deputizing people another name for setting up a posse like they did in the wild West?
I’m thinking that the sheriff’s should do some preliminary instruction work. Like safe handling of firearms, crowd control, how not to be goaded into a rash action, etc., etc.
Just the fact that there’s a SERIOUS rather than seat-of-the-pants, move to have backup might deter the agitators. It would also give the sheriff’s an idea of the quality/quantity of support they have.
