Derek Chauvin told George Floyd it takes 'a lot of oxygen' to talk when he repeatedly said he couldn't breathe: transcripts.

George Floyd said “I can’t breathe” more than 20 times during the May 25 arrest that led to his death, but the Minneapolis police officer who was kneeling on his neck responded by saying, "it takes a heck of a lot of oxygen to talk," according to transcripts of body camera video recordings released Wednesday.

"You're going to kill me, man," Floyd said, according to a transcript of former Minneapolis police officer Thomas Lane’s body camera. Lane was one of three officers at the scene with former Officer Derek Chauvin on May 25 when Chauvin restrained Floyd during an arrest by putting his knee to his neck for nearly nine minutes.

"Then stop talking, stop yelling. It takes a heck of a lot of oxygen to talk," Chauvin said to Floyd.

The transcripts were made public Wednesday as part of Lane's request to have the case against him dismissed. Lane's attorney, Earl Gray, said in a memorandum that there isn't probable cause to charge his client, based on all of the evidence and the law.

Gray wrote Floyd was "hitting his face on the glass in the squad and began to bleed from his mouth" and the officers planned to restrain him so he couldn't "move and hurt himself anymore." At other times, Floyd appeared cooperative, according to the transcripts.

I am sure more details will come out at the trial...

About Chauvin's comments...Those comments don't make Chauvin look like a very compassionate guy...But, it was a very stressful situation for everyone at the scene...I am sure Chauvin's lawyer will have something to say about the comments at the trial...

“Then stop talking, stop yelling. It takes a heck of a lot of oxygen to talk,” Chauvin said to Floyd.

That sounds harsh, but appropriate under the circumstances. From this, Chauvin seems like he was impatient with Floyd but was also trying to explain to him that relaxing a bit would allow him to breathe more easily.

Anyone want to go to Lotto going on how many minorities are going to do shoot and kill each other this weekend in different cities?

They can’t breathe either. They’re dead.

Some black lives matter more than others

no Chauvin should have been trained that one can still talk when suffocating. That is an integral part of restraint training.

With the Fentanyl and meth ‘cocktail’ in his system...it’s hard to see how Floyd could relax. Add in the fact that Floyd had Sickle Cell Anemia, and appears to have the beginning effects of Covid-19....all would have limited oxygen reaching his cells.

So he’s a respiratory physiologist as well as a cop.

A renaissance man.

I have been holding my tongue on the Floyd incident, but if you have ever taken a first aid class, they tell you if the person choking is able to speak, do not perform the heimlich, because air is passing across their vocal cords, same goes for restraining an individual, if they pass out and go limp the individual is no longer a threat and then you cuff-n-stuff.

My opinion on whether the police are at fault for his death is not decided until all of the evedence is presented. But I believe that they should not be charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter would benefit both the prosecution and defence to provide full disclosure (body cams, full spectator video, non edited video etc.) In other words, the full story, not narrative.

There’s a reason the body cam vids haven’t been released. The autopsy/pharmacology report was bad enough for the prosecution.

The LATimes says it was less than 8 minutes:

...

I guess that means Chauvin didn’t cause the blood from the mouth.

Agreed. If one can not breath, one can not say ‘I can’t breath’ but leftists lie about everything.

That is irrelevant - even if it's true that one can talk while suffocating. Floyd was not being suffocated by the police. There was no noose around his neck. His head was not wrapped in a plastic bag. He was not locked in an airtight box.

He was experiencing an overdose of fentanyl. "Big media" knows this -- that Floyd was not murdered -- and that makes the accusations against the (white) police just another "big lie."

Who said: "The bigger the lie; the better?"

Having seen very many apprehensions/detentions on Live PD (now CANCELLED!) where the perps fraudulently “CLAIM” “I can’t breathe” in an effort to trick the police into letting down their guard so they can escape.

They even run while handcuffed behind their backs!

For this officer to not believe this perps claims of “I can’t breathe” is very understandable.

Criminals LIE!

Derrick Chauvin didn’t kill George Floyd (aka George Kirby, George Taylor, Floyd Taylor).

GEORGE TAYLOR KILLED HIMSELF! His poor health because of his criminal lifestyle, hard drug use, and actions when confronted by police caused his own death.

Derrick Chauvin kneeling on George Floyd’s neck DID NOT KILL HIM!

Derrick Chauvin is INNOCENT!

FREE Derrick Chauvin!

Lack of common sense and concern for the individual. Which is always the case when government is in control. The cops called a code 3. While waiting, the cops didn't perform any emergency care while waiting for the ambulance. No attempt to change the perps position to encourage airflow or aid. Simply look at the way Floyd was treated when the ambulance arrives. I've seen sacks potatoes treated better.

“Agreed. If one can not breath, one can not say ‘I can’t breath’ but leftists lie about everything.”

Taking things literally us a sign of mental illness. Leftists and BLM do it all the time.

You are also in this common refrain.

And accusing someone of mental illness is done by communists as a method to delegitimize a person’s argument.

You are also in this common refrain.

“And accusing someone of mental illness is done by communists as a method to delegitimize a person’s argument.”

That’s a common refrain of the paranoid also.

But I was simply pointing out the irrelevance, and stupidity, of the argument, not accusing anyone of mental illness.
