BEIJING (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department warned American citizens on Saturday to “exercise increased caution” in China due to heightened risk of arbitrary law enforcement including detention and a ban from exiting the country.

“U.S. citizens may be detained without access to U.S. consular services or information about their alleged crime,” the State Department said in a security alert issued to its citizens in China, adding that U.S. citizens may face “prolonged interrogations and extended detention” for reasons related to state security.

There’s a lot of background friction going on with the Chicoms right now. Their first move will be to take Taiwan. If a war broke out between us there would be a lot of people detained in both of our countries.

The new Hong Kong National Security Law which is long on generalities and short on specifics. One of the main focuses is “foreign influence.”

Article 38 of the law says that it applies to everyone in the entire world.

Several western countries are warning their citizens on either not traveling to Hong Kong or if they are they then stay away from the police or demonstrations. You could be accused of probably violating the security law, arrested, and sent to China for trial.

The is due to the weak response to BLM. It makes the government look toothless...end emboldens the enemy.

It certainly might be Taiwan.

I would think it would depend on whether the hostilities start with Xi or some other faction bent of picking a fight (like the military itself).

They could ramp up with India or create a face-off in the South China Sea.

It’s either a prelude to war...or misinformation.

uh....last I checked mainland China is a communist country. They don’t care about niceties too much. When Canada arrested that Huawei executive China retaliated by arresting at least a couple of businessmen. They are still in jail. Anyone visiting a communist country has a degree of risk when it comes to govt. action against them.

Well I am posting this from a communist country. I use common sense, but feel no threat in Vietnam, whatsoever.

I lived in China, a long time ago.

Thirty plus years ago.

That was before Tien An Men. It was much then, like Vietnam is now.

U.S. warns citizens of heightened detention risks in China

The Chinese are probably marveling at how our petty tyrants (AKA "Governors") can ape the totalitarianism of the ChiComs.

Mr. President, please do something.

Issue your own Executive Order, backed up by the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution, to counter these tyrannical state orders.

Mr. President, don't you see what the masks muzzles are doing to us as a people?

California banned singing in churches. Your fat Attorney General won't lift a finger to help.

Do something Mr. President - please.

2 US Navy Carrier Groups have entered the South China Sea

The Chinese are in a rage to have these foreigners sailing in their “home waters” keeping them open for international navigation. They will detain US citizens as revenge.

Bless our sailors, naval and air force aviators.

YEs, at some point decades ago our elites decided they’d portray most communist countries in a positive light - and naïve Westerners have paid a price.

I also think because there is growing anger against the ChiComs because of the spread of the “Wuhan Red Virus Of Death” that have its origins in a biological lab.

Many Americans, including those who have family or business in China, will suffer normalcy bias. They will continue to travel there because nothing has happened to them in the past.

China takes hostages. They took the Canadian businessmen to trade them for the CEO of Huawei. It was inconceivable to them that the prime minister could not simply order her release. The two Canadians have been sentenced to death. Eventually, China will execute them to prove they mean business and then arrest a bunch more and also condemn them. The same will happen to Americans.

Traveling to China at this time is like playing Russian Roulette.

I think there is perhaps a fundamental difference in between how Asians and many Americans, see face masks.

In Asia, they were instantly adopted, with a degree of government enforcement yes, by most every country.

With some success.

America has been different.

Different cultures. However a big part of the differences, may be that Asians, are 100% familiar with face masks. They have face masks, and had them already. They were INSTANTLY on everyone’s face.

Literally, all most needed to do, is pull one out of their pocket.

America does not use masks this way. At all. Heck, we didn’t even have them around, originally. MANY were sold and shipped to China by Chinese, where they were, mostly originally made.

America just did not use masks. Did not even have ACCESS to them, for some time.

So it is not easy to make comparisons.

The DOJ will support any litigant should challenges those stupid orders.

Has any church taken action to sue the state of California over that order?

If not, then don’t be a pathetic malcontent whining for someone to help you when you won’t even take the first step to do something yourself.

This year has been a PR disaster for China. The ChiComs know they are a pariah nation now just with the virus alone.
