Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) called Wednesday for the impeachment of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) over his handling of the state's coronavirus outbreak, saying, "The people we are lauding are actually making catastrophic decisions."
"I think Gov. Cuomo should be impeached ... for the disastrous decision he made to send patients with coronavirus back to nursing homes. ... Virtually half his people who died were in nursing homes," Paul said on Fox News's "Rundown" morning podcast.
Earlier in the show, Paul called in to question the pandemic lockdown imposed in New York in March, referencing the surge of cases across the state despite the shelter-in-place orders.
"New York had a lockdown and had 30,000 people die. New York had the worst death rate of any place in the world amidst a lockdown. So perhaps a lockdown didn't do any good, and perhaps a lockdown killed our economy but didn't do anything to stem the tide of a virus."
The Hill has reached out to Cuomo's office for comment.
Paul, a physician, said he thinks pandemic lockdowns "killed the economy but didn't do any good for trying to contain the virus."
Commenting on recently reimposed restrictions in states that are seeing new COVID-19 spikes, Paul said individuals "need to assess their own risks with regard to the virus," saying that for "those under 18, the risk of mortality is about one in a million or a little bit less. For those ages 18 to 45, it's about 10 out of 100,000 for the mortality.
"Under age 45, this disease we're looking at is less dangerous than the seasonal flu. Above age 45, it's more dangerous than the seasonal flu," he said.
Paul, who became the first senator to contract the novel coronavirus back in March, has been vocal about the country's pandemic response, repeatedly saying that a small subset of health experts should not be making the rules on their own.
The Republican senator publicly questioned leading infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci, saying in June that the epidemiologist advising the nation's response to COVID-19 should provide "more optimism" about America's approach.

In the first few months of the coverage, nearly every single report would have Cuomo as the chief person interviewed.
It was as if he was the official spokesman for the entire nation. I am not exaggerating either not a bit.
Other than Janice Dean, has anyone heard of any other family members of dead nursing home residents who are raising heck about what was allowed to happen to their loved ones...?

The little communist bassturd needs to be arrested, tried and executed for mass murder and crimes against humanity....but I’ll take impeachment for 1000, Alex.
There was one guy who posted some sign over a road about Cuomo killing his grandmother, but no, no lawsuits.
Which is really sad. I know many older people are warehoused in nursing homes cause their kids couldn’t be bothered and the kids never come to visit them. The accounts I hear of older folks getting dressed up and waiting for their kids to show up for birthdays and holidays and they never do, is heart rending.
The lack of lawsuits makes me wonder, although I’m equally surprised that some of them are not filing them just for the gravy train.
It’s a very broken world we live in.

All of those Democrat governors should be impeached, and prosecuted for every single one of the elderly deaths that they enabled!
They love him enough to vote for him.
I want to know if Cuomo sent those infected into the nursing homes on purpose. To me it’s possible, the left has no bounds when it comes to evil. Was he ordered to do it to make Trump look bad or was he ordered to do it by Bill Gates and his de-population plan?
A close family member went to college with him, worked with him in daddy’s office when daddy was gov. He says he’s a raging a$$hole and as crooked as they come.
They did it because there was money (federal $$) to be made off CV patients and nursing homes needed the money. The NY companies that run the nursing homes are probably all good Cuomo donors. The nursing home residents had no means of causing Cuomo any political consequences for doing it. (We’re still seeing that now ! Where’s the outrage?) You don’t need anything complicated to explain it when greed, politics, expediency and “just-don’t-give-a-damn” explains it all.

And how come the other Senators (except Cruz) are silent.
Whenever I think of Rand now though, I picture him at the very end of the debate stage and Trump saying if he lost any more votes he’d fall off the stage.
