Microsoft is currently in talks buy the U.S. operations of hit video app TikTok, according to The New York Times.
The report comes shortly after Bloomberg reported that President Donald Trump plans to order Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, to sell its stake in the app on Friday.
According to pool reports, Trump told reporters, Were looking at TikTok, we may be banning TikTok.
Microsoft did not immediately respond to request made by Digital Trends. We will update this story when we hear back.
In a statement to Digital Trends, TikTok declined to comment on rumors or speculation.
We are confident in the long-term success of TikTok, a TikTok spokesperson said. Hundreds of millions of people come to TikTok for entertainment and connection, including our community of creators and artists who are building livelihoods from the platform. Were motivated by their passion and creativity, and committed to protecting their privacy and safety as we continue working to bring joy to families and meaningful careers to those who create on our platform.
Fox Business Networks Charles Gasparino reported that the White House is deeply concerned about the purchase, specifically whether if any Chinese investors will hold a remaining stake.
The Trump administration has long been critical of TikTok, and in July, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo threatened to ban the app in America over national security risks.
Trumps stance against TikTok aligns with his goal to rid the U.S. of Chinese technology companies, which he believes are using tech to spy on Americans via data collection. The U.S. is not the only country to express reservations about TikTok; India banned the app over similar concerns.
Experts have said TikToks policy on data collection is very similar to U.S.-run companies like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I fail to see how that would change anything.
Selling the company is fine. But somebody had better go thru the code with a fine toothed comb to make sure it’s still not sending data back to Beijing.
isn’t that shoveling money to china’s spy ops
The concerns over security and its relationship to the Chinese government, however, has not stopped TikTok from growing in popularity among America’s younger generations (They could care less, I think).
The app has been downloaded 2 billion times globally 165 million times in the U.S., according to SensorTower.

China used TikTok to interfere in and disrupt the Trump rally.
Crickets from the Democrats.
Thats one way to keep it going. The longer the debate drags on, the better the chances of this happening.

Americas younger generations have been dumbed down by the very “educational” system that was supposed to be teaching them reading, writing and algebra.
ChiCom spies have found a soft underbelly and exploited it.
A seemingly harmless time-killing app that will be downloaded by millions of teens and then spy on their parents.
Gotta hand it to them, it’s brilliant.

True. My teen son could care less. Too many friends on it.
But I don’t think Microsoft is the answer.
Kodak would suit me fine.
Should be cheap.
What a dick.
Lol! Nah, just have Kodak buy Parler, Bitchute, UGETube and so on and build the new empire that way.
And give Vets fifty points out of a hundred in employment preference.

Why China company forced to sell? Are we turning into Venezuela?
Bill Gates = China
“Why China company forced to sell?”
Because there’s no such thing as a Chinese “company”. It’s the CCP operating inside the US. In that sense, letting it go on IS like living in Venezuela.
