Brazil's Pres. Bolsonaro Accused by Former President of Making Up His COVID-19 Infection to Push Hydroxychloroquine
Newsweek ^ | 08/01/2020 | BY ARISTOS GEORGIOU

Brazil's former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on Thursday that current office holder Jair Bolsonaro made up his coronavirus infection to promote the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine.

Both Bolsnaro and President Donald Trump have touted the medication for the treatment of COVID-19, despite the fact that the effectiveness of the drug against COVID-19 has been questioned by many in the scientific community.

"I think Bolsonaro invented that he was contaminated in order to advertise the medicine. I do not know if he is a partner, but he behaves as if he owned the factory that makes the medicine," the former Brazilian president, who is commonly referred to as "Lula," said during a virtual press conference on Thursday, Portugal's Jornal de Notícias reported.

On July 7, Bolsonaro announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19, a disease which he had previously referred to as a "little flu," saying it would not affect him much if he were to become infected due to his history as an athlete.

Last Saturday, the current president said he had overcome the illness, attributing his recovery to taking hydroxychloroquine, which is usually used to treat malaria and other conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

In addition to questioning the current president's COVID-19 infection, Lula also said that "responsibility" for the seriousness of the current situation in Brazil lay with Bolsonaro.

The South American nation has experienced the second worst coronavirus outbreak in the world after the United States, recording more than 2.6 million confirmed cases and over 91,000 deaths from the disease.

"If Brazil had done what common sense commands, we would not have had 90,000 corpses, which makes Bolsonaro a mass murderer," Lula said.

The former Brazilian president also accused Bolsonaro of "belittling" the risk posed by the virus, while also ignoring recommendations from experts.

Thanks for the ping.

Now, who is the true bad guy and the good guy in this Brazil story?

It’s a bit confusing to me.

How about: If CHINA had done what common sense commands?

The whole problem with the premise being that it’s about the only treatment approach that doesn’t have the potential to make a boatload of money for anyone, since it’s been used safely for ages, and its patents expired long ago; it’s a generic, readily producible and available at very low cost.

Unlike the new treatments it would displace.

Follow the money.

All the motivation (read: $$$$$$$) to lie about treatment medications is on the side of Big Pharma and the politicians and doctors in their pocket. There's no money to be made in "pushing" a cheap alternative that's been FDA approved for more than sixty years.

One thing about electing an older billionaire. Who's got enough money to buy him?

"Lulu" is claiming this? Wasn't he the old Communist they tossed out of office a few years ago?

Sure, whatever you say, Comrade Karen.

I’m more of the opinion their point in lying is to keep us locked down in general in order to force mail in voting and enabling massive vote fraud.

Well, that’s different. Maybe MSM/Dems will take notice, their current line of attack is getting a bit stale.

Without question, that too. The "required vaccinations" are coming as well. And that's when the masks, shopping aisle arrows, and Stasi style informer network compliance conditioning will, they hope, pay off.

We are surrounded by a purposely panicked herd. I just last night "un-friended" someone I've known for nearly forty years because she's gone off the deep end into crazy land with posts about carrying a paintball gun in her purse to shoot people in stores walking the wrong way down aisles. Not worth the aggravation reading her hysteria. And no real point in replying to her that if someone shot me with a paint ball I'd be sorely pressed not to respond with a different sort of projectile.

Bolsonaro is the good guy, but he’s conservative and pro-capitalism, so they’re out to get him.

As for having the virus, we had a newscaster who did a long documentary on the agony of his coronavirus infection...but then it turned out that he’d never had it. No antibodies, and he’d had just a flu.

A flu is not “just a flu,” and is highly unpleasant and can be fatal at much higher rates than this COVID stuff. But it’s not politically useful.

Fortunately I have yet to run across one of these people, and I have no doubt my response would be a projectile consisting of balled up knuckles.

This nonsense has certainly opened my eyes to some interesting thought processes from many long time acquaintances, and strangely enough, mostly positive (unexpected), specifically from those here in Southern California.
