Yesterday saying hi this morning to the Sunday loyals...omw to South Dakota. Two years in a row, my vacation was canceled....last year due to a landslide in my back yard, this year due to our government canceling my reservation to North Rim Grand Canyon...so, we’re headed to Rapid City...any advice? So far plans are to do Rushmore tomorrow, Custer State park and Crazy Horse Tuesday, Badlands Wednesday, and Devils Tower Thursday...returning Friday...the motorcycle rally is in Spearfish ending on 13th, and we’re driving around that...
Having never been there, Governor Noem not closing the state influenced our change of plans after our first trip was canceled.
You have a place to stay around Rapid City?
Thought the bikers booked all the rooms.
What a trip you have planned. Have been to all of them and you are guaranteed a great time.
You’re going to LOVE the Black Hills...the Needles, Iron Mountain Road, awesome scenery!
ENjoy yourself Rich! Spread the word while you travel!!
If you drive through the small town of Custer, stop at the Purple Pie shop.
It’s right on the main drag. There’s also a really good place there for bison burgers, I’ll try to think of the name.
I was up there last year. Amazing place!
I think it’s Black Hills Burger and Bun in Custer, also on the main drag.
The key to bison burgers is not to get them overdone, not past medium or they’re really dry.
The one I had there was great, recommended by a tour guide in Custer SP.
It used to be, the only reason for going to Hot Springs was the hot springs pool, naturally warmed spring water, an indoor/outdoor "water park"...
But in the recent past, as they were excavating for a new supermarket, a worker discovered a mammoth bone. All work was stopped and the archeologists moved in.
Now that area is a massive natural history site where many many of the elephants have been found. Take a look at it on your laptop and consider it a unique tour stop...
Then stop in for a dip at "the springs".
Get to Rushmore really early, and do the hiking trail, too. Deadwood is interesting...lotsa gambling tho.
