What in the recent past would have been considered up for debate, now shifts firmly into the “settled science” category by those who are intolerant of differing viewpoints.

In 2020, “winners” consist of those who control social media networks, of which a mere handful now have a stranglehold on the national conversation. Because these firms are primarily located in the ultra-liberal San Francisco Bay Area, their hiring pool has long consisted primarily of left-leaning employees.

Every time someone mentions “settled science” I ask them if eggs are good or bad for you.

“Settled Science” needs to pass Scientific Method discipline. There must be verified evidence of the testing procedure.

If “Settled Science” means you cannot ask questions or re-examine evidence, then it isn’t science.

If it’s settled, it is not science.

Right. There is no such thing as “settled science”. I believe it was the late Charles Krauthammer who said: If it’s science, it’s not settled. And if it’s settled, it’s not science.

And at one time scientists were encouraged to challenge established beliefs. Continually challenge! No more. If both Al Gore and Greta Thunberg say so, it must be true. Case closed. Anyone who disagrees is a “wrecker” - to use an old Soviet term.

Or coffee.

Or steak.

Or a wide variety of conventional vitamin supplements.

The simple fact is - as you alluded to - that the “settled science” changes every time a new “study” says something different (and many of those “studies” are - just like the Hydroxychlorquin tests recently - designed from the beginning to produce a particular result).

“Science is never settled.”

*****THIS!*****

This single sentence should be drummed into the heads of every single student in every single science class from 1st grade through graduate school, along with the reasons why the scientific method mandates this simple truth.

If the climate science predictions are anything like Covid 19 predictions of 2 million dead then they are just as suspect and prone to error as anything forecasting the future is. And with Covid the future was months away and not a decade away. And I would argue that politics is just as rife in climate science as see have seen with Covid. So Covid opens one’s eyes about “settled science.”
