A Rathdrum couple said their American and Gadsden flags were cut from a 25-foot flagpole in front of their home in a senior community.
Dale and Paula Atwood have proudly flown the flags on their property for 13 years. They were shocked to find the rope cleanly cut in two places Friday morning.
The Gadsden flag, famous for its "Don't Tread on Me!" quote and rattlesnake symbol, is rooted in the Revolutionary War against Great Britain. According to Atwood, the Gadsden flag has long been a symbol of civil liberties, American patriotism, and disagreement with the government.
"I think people are just not educated about the differences of flags," Atwood said. "We had a neighbor ask why we would fly a flag that has to do with slavery, and it has nothing to do with that."
After flying the flag for several years, the Atwoods said they believe whoever cut their flag has a misconception of its meaning.
"I think somebody is trying to make a backhanded, uneducated statement," Paula Atwood said.
For the two, the flag is simply an expression of their opinion and American heritage.
"Don't step on me just because I have an opinion," Paula Atwood said. "That is part of our American rights, and when people try to shut you up for what you believe, you have to make a stand."
According to the Atwoods, their senior-living subdivision is out of the way of the general public. They were surprised someone would trespass on their property and inflict harm.
"It was a very intentional act, and it makes you feel violated," Paula Atwood said. "If it can happen to senior citizens, it can happen to anybody."

It is distressing to see this happen in Rathdrum. Somebody went out of their way to cut their flags down. The damned antifa / BLM / communist scum / related sympathizers are infiltrating every corner of our country.
Put up flags. Sit out at night nearby with a 12 gauge and rock salt.
Ignorance is no excuse for criminal acts like this. We can only hope that someone knows who did it.

Why rock salt, most likely who did this would kill you, me, or this old couple in a heartbeat.
Old time liberals knew they had to at least pretend to have respect for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
It was pretty easy when they controlled 99% of the mass media, the narrative, controlled who was considered acceptable to be a senatorial or presidential candidate, controlled what was a scandal, and what was not, controlled most of what was considered acceptable for the American people to know.
Now, there is enough alternate media, they no longer have those powers. They are desperate, and the gloves have come off in their desperation.
I suppose, given todays hyper-woke stupidly, these OF should be happy their house wasn’t set ablaze - with them inside.

Its likely someone in the mobile home park. Some old hippie burn out reliving their “protest” days. they should put up another one but with game cameras hidden. Find out who did it, then sugar their gas tank and “round up” Fu-K you on their lawn, and with paint remover on their siding.
It looks like Modular, instead of Mobile homes. The spacing is pretty close. Its probably a inside job.

I lived in the Spokane area back in the late 70s. Work took me into Idaho from time to time to work on remote radio repeaters.
The place (panhandle) was just plain scary, between the dopers, far-right lunatic survivalists and just plain crazies....
Mrs. Atwood is not up on CW II, what's going on nationwide, and the battle for our nation. She believes this was done by some misguided "uneducated" person.
The thing about the Rathdrum area is that they’re not that far from dense forests. If someone found out who was doing this to this nice couple...

Not anymore. I Moved here 8 years ago and there isn’t any dopers, Antifa types, or many libs. Housing/land prices are expensive now, and conservatism is good. I’ll take a “far right lunatic” neighbor over a passive rino any day.
