Newsom plays both sides in forest management fight as wildfires rage
Washington Times ^ | September 21, 2020 | Valerie Richardson

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has pointed out that the state’s wildfires are located primarily on federal land — and he’s right — but now he and other Democratic governors are trying to block the Trump administration’s effort to speed up the clearing of overgrown, tinder-dry forests.

Twenty-three states, including California, Oregon and Washington, sued last month to stop the National Environmental Policy Act modernization, which would thin the regulatory thicket and red tape blamed for slowing down federal projects, including forest management on the government’s extensive Western lands.

Myron Ebell, director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, accused Western Democrats of using climate change as a “smokescreen” to obscure the issue of worsening forest health, which he dated back to the 1990 endangered species decision on the Northern spotted owl that decimated the Pacific Northwest timber industry.

All of the spotted owls just burned up

If he's blaming the fires on federal forest management he's admitting the fires were caused by lack of forest management and not climate change.

He's admitting Trump is right.

The best plan would be to water the forests.

How many forest fires do they have on the Olympic Peninsula?

Yes.
The left ignores forestry science for environmental “feelings”. We must follow to the science!
Putting off all forest fires started around 1900, but our forefathers meant it as a start of intensive forest management program. Basically the trees saved from fires were supposed to be cut and used. But then the environmentalists ordered that all trees must be saved from the saw. Then the spotted owl fiasco happened and drove lumberjacks out of business. Now we have forest being cleansed naturally by fires all over. We need radical intensive scientific forest management plan NOW!
Note - most fires are on Federal land, actually mostly on protected wilderness and National parks! Why? Because private lands are managed! The “pristine forest” is the fire breeder.
We will not be fire free unless we cut at least three quarter of the trees, preferably a lot more. We also need to build a lot of forest roads to facilitate fire management.
BTW the spotted owl is being displaced by its brother - the Barred owl. The only effective way to save it is to eradicate barred owl from spotted owl habitat.

Gavin played both sides of Kammy Harris in the early 2000’s when they were burning up the bed sheets.

“Lightning sparks at least 10 new forest fires on Olympic Peninsula”

Hard to believe that the OP needs even more moisture.

That was my only experience with skiing in The Olympics...

Look up the Roadless Policy that Bill Clinton & Bruce Babbitt concocted in the 90’s.

They blocked off roads.

They dug holes behind those gates large enough to drop a school bus into.

Hotshots had to parachute into fires in some forests.

The enviros got a huge foothold inside the Interior department under Babbitt.

This isn’t a fairy tale. Look it all up.

Until they allow the lumber industry properly manage the forests they will continue to die and burn.

The BLM is to blame for bad management as well.

THe private timber owners can also be aholes. We had Boise log some areas right around here and they left gigantic piles of slash, early in the summer, right before when fires usually start. Huge piles, perfect fuel. Not angels.
