Let me take that back. The Kra Canal wouldn’t be any more secure for the Chinese because the Indians could blockade that too. Indians have a big naval presence in the nearby Andaman Islands. The alternate route China is seeking (away from Indian naval ships) is through the Pakistani port of Gwadar and then through a highway connecting Gwadar to western China.
