College Common App Drops Question About Discipline, Citing Racial Disparities
WSJ ^ | 09/30/2020 | Melissa Korn

The Common Application is scrapping a question that asks applicants to reveal whether they have been subject to disciplinary action in high school, aiming to eliminate what it says could be an obstacle for Black students considering college.

For more than a decade, the application—submitted by more than 1 million students to more than 900 colleges and universities—requested that students disclose whether they’d been found responsible for a “disciplinary violation.” That could be academic or behavioral misconduct, and would have led to probation, suspension or expulsion.

Behind paywall. Here is the key points:

"the Common App found that Black applicants marked “yes” more than twice as often as white applicants. Black women were three times as likely as white women to say they’d been disciplined. And those who did give affirmative responses submitted applications at a lower rate."

Colleges are moving away from SAT/ACT. Won't ask about disciplinary records. What's next, not asking for grades? Just a diploma and essays I guess.

Essays? That requires writing ability and would be “systemically racist.”

The goal is to ask one question: What is your race? If the answer is white or Asian, then the application is discarded.

I got my BS in the last decade, and one of my teachers at the time, in Business Communications class told me she’d refer me to the master program. Well I took forever to get my BS, and MS is a distant possibility and I don’t remember her and she doesn’t remember me I’m sure but you still need a recommended letter and GRE/GMAT to get to MS level.

That’s the breaks kids. College ain’t cheap, might not pay off, even at the best tech schools. This ‘blacks get a free pass’ stuff is really, really sickening.. Even blacks don’t really like it, it’s all white guilt.

The college entrance essay has long been scammed. The privileged stupid have it written for them and minorities use it to signal their status in a way that affirmative-action quotas can be denied.

Yep, whites and Asians need not apply.

If it wasn’t for low standards we wouldn’t have any standards at all.

I was not a business major, but a business communication class was one choice of a few required electives to graduate university. So I took the class. We learned how to format and draft memos properly. I sent a perfectly well formatted and composed memo to the hot girl asking her out for coffee. She accepted! And I got an A on the memo.

But then she invited me to meet her boyfriend. Not sure what her intentions were, but he wasn’t too into it whatever they were :-)

This is an overtly racist assumption.

Universities should be required to identify specifically what decisions are based on merit and what decisions are based on race. It might be an interesting exercise. Admissions based on ??? The basketball team based on ???.

What no one addresses is that kids who go to majority black public schools often have mostly black teachers and principals. So who is writing them up?

The current way to cut black crime and lawlessness is just not to charge them with any offenses, hence their crime number drop dramatically. And all is well, until you encounter one of these people.
