C-SPAN’s Steve Scully, who will moderate the second presidential debate, got his start as a staff assistant in Sen. Ted Kennedy’s communication office, and prior to that worked as in intern in the office of then-senator Joe Biden.
The second presidential debate is scheduled for October 15, just two weeks from now.

You might know Scully as the guy who handles C-SPAN’s open phone lines, a job he handles affably and with grace.
Scully is generally well-regarded in Washington and in the media, but out here where I am in flyover country, he may at least be seen as too chummy with Democrats to serve as an honest broker for the second presidential debate.

Never heard of the guy, but on the surface it seems like a huge conflict of interest.
I wouldn’t read too much into it. People work as interns for politicians they don’t like all the time. All they care about is getting it on their resume.
Not saying he doesn’t lean to the left, I don’t know that. But I won’t freak out about this alone.
It would be hard to do a worse job than Chris Wallace.
Obviously the Debate Commission is overloaded with Leftists. Gotta’ change that or just drop the “debates”...
He worked for Biden & Kennedy but it was only two years total back in the 1970s.

I think he’ll do ok. He doesn’t come off as the prima donna that Wallace is.

I recently met a (very attractive) young lady, a college senior who had gotten an internship for a particular Congressman.
I asked what the job was like and she replied “I do research for him on energy topics so that when he sits down in the hearings he does not sound like an idiot”.
