White House: Trump after testing positive, has 'mild symptoms' of COVID-19

The White House said Friday that President Donald Trump was suffering “mild symptoms” of COVID-19, adding that he was in good spirits and working in the family quarters though the announcement of his illness threw the country deeper into uncertainty just a month before the presidential election.

The revelation came in a Trump tweet about 1 a.m. after he had returned from an afternoon political fundraiser without telling the crowd he had been exposed to an aide with the disease that has killed more than 205,000 Americans and more than a million people worldwide.

First lady Melania Trump also tested positive, the president said, and several others in the White House have, too, prompting concern that the White House or even Trump himself might have spread the virus further. The Trumps' son Barron, who lives at the White House, tested negative.

Trump has spent much of the year downplaying the threat of the virus, rarely wearing a protective mask and urging states and cities to “reopen” and reduce or eliminate shutdown rules.

Both Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris have tested negative, their campaign said. Vice President Mike Pence tested negative for the virus Friday morning and “remains in good health,” his spokesman said.

Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who was with him and many others on Saturday and has been on Capitol Hill meeting with lawmakers, also tested negative, the White House said.

Trump's diagnosis was sure to have a destabilizing effect in Washington and around the world, raising questions about how far the virus has spread through the highest levels of U.S. government. Hours before Trump announced he had contracted the virus, the White House said a top aide who had traveled with him during the week had tested positive.

Here’s a rundown of who in Trump’s inner circle has tested negative, now that AG Barr has tested negative, rounding out the list of top Trump cabinet officials. To recap, the list of officials who have tested negative includes:

Pompeo
Mike Pence & Karen Pence
Mnuchin
Barr
Meadows
Jared & Ivanka
Dan Scavino
Amy Barrett
Barron Trump
Chad Wolf
Gen. Mark Milley
Alex Azar
John Ratcliffe

Meanwhile, Rudy Giuliani is in the process of getting tested, and we’re still waiting on Biden’s test results.

RE: So what are the mild symptoms?

Apparently, lethargy (which is uncharacteristic of him) as Maggie Haberman of the New York Time Tweets ( if you can believe her ).

Wow. so it’s not really much of a threat. Cool.

The period of danger seems to be a week or so after testing positive. If the virus reaches the lungs, then things quickly take a turn for the worse. Hope he recovers quickly — given his weight and age, the risk is there. But he has the best / top doctors on hand, and recently they seem to have become better at managing this. Fingers crossed.

Such dishonest reporting. He didn’t ‘tell the crowd’ because Hope’s (more definitive) test wasn’t back yet.

“So what are the mild symptoms?”

Good question, there are so many linked to this virus. There’s even what’s been called “covid toes”.

I’m sure he was lethargic after a week of consecutive rallies.

Not so....The President said during the debate that they had both been tested previous to it.

Unless Trump has other comorbidities (he’s overweight, but not obsese) his age is really the only factor and it’s well over 95% recoverable, even at his age, and with the medical treatment available to him.

Reading their filthy article makes me sick. If they win this election we will be in the hands of pure evil.

... the disease that has killed more than 205,000 Americans ...

205,000 Americans with most having greater than 94% comorbidities. Only about 6% die directly from the virus.

I got a feeling this is only going to work in his favor. I really don’t care what the polls say. Every friend and member of my family told me I was crazy and he would never be president. Now they wish there were more like him.

Joe Biden’s results are negative, according to press reports.

VP Pence being negative means continuity of Trump government, which is great news. I think Pelosi had her hopes dashed on that.
