As coronavirus cases rise, red-state governors resist measures to slow the spread, preach ‘personal responsibility’
Washington Post ^ | Oct 18 2020 | Griff Witte, Tony Romm

With cases surging to new highs and hospital capacity running low, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum teared up describing a state “caught in the middle of a covid storm.”...

many Republican governors are resisting new measures to stop the spread. Some are even loosening rules already on the books.

Instead, they preach the mantra of “personal responsibility,” insisting that government interventions such as mask mandates or business restrictions are either unnecessary or harmful, and that people should be trusted to make their own decisions about how to keep themselves — and each other — healthy....

Republican governors have mimicked aspects of that stance. While Democratic governors in blue states such as New York, New Mexico and California have rolled back reopening plans in response to rising coronavirus rates, the opposite has been true of Republican leaders in red states where the virus is now running rampant.

What's wrong with these republican governors? Don't they realize that Americans are too stupid to practice personal responsibility.

Trust in the Dem's to make you do what the Dem's have decided is best for you.

Blue states so much better. Right. It’s all falling in on them.

I have COVID. Like 99.98% of everybody else who has had it, I have had minor symptoms.

The plandemic was designed for two things- drive Trump from office, and punish those of us who voted for him.

So does Nick Saban’s False Positive fall into the “rise’ in cases?

Or does FauXI The Compost The Humuo’s et al count the five Negatives as just one test?

The “stats’ are so subject to questioning . .

The messengers have succeeded in changing lanes from deaths to cases. Likely tens of millions have contacted the virus and shrugged it off. As with all viruses it is now a part of our genetic fabric and we move on despite our losses.

Visited Pa across the river from NJ and the towns we saw were freaking creepy with MASS MASKS like dystopian sheep even on CHILDREN. Wolfman and the freak Levin got ‘em real good. Our country’s future may be decided by mask wearers.

“many Republican governors are resisting new measures to stop the spread. Some are even loosening rules already on the books.”

Who do these Republican governors think they are, leaving it up to the citizens to act responsibly? They could end up like Sweden.

40% with COVID-19 experience no symptoms.
40% experience mild to moderate symptoms and require no medical intervention.
20% require medical intervention.
2-4% will end up in the ICU.
0.65% will die.

I’m glad your personal experience with it has been fine. Understand that your personal experience is not the only experience people have with it. Throwing out random numbers like “99.98%” which do not reflect reality only stokes fears. The reality isn’t that scary. We should stick to it.

Why don’t the governors tell us the total number of people being tested along with solid numbers of negative and positive instead of saying “5%” tested positive. Also, how about the number of false positives.

OK, here are the facts: Strict lockdowns (like in France, what was done here was a joke) do reduce virus circulation to near zero, as long as they are carried out.

When strict lockdowns are relaxed, even a little, explosive transmission follows.

Strict lockdowns harm businesses, harm individuals, and harm children. The cost of strict lockdowns is very high.

In a political system where voting is allowed, strict lockdowns are not feasible for prolonged periods. France could only tolerate theirs for nine weeks. The US never locked down in the European sense.

BOTTOM LINE: Whether or not the cost of prolonged strict lockdowns is proportionate to the harms caused by widespread virus circulation is a political, not a scientific, question.

The purpose of reducing restrictions is economic.

This makes the entire case for “Red States”

August values, I am eager to see the September ones, which should be out soon.

I doubt 0.65% death rate. Perhaps 0.65% of what has been REPORTED/TESTED. Do we really know how many folks had mild symptoms or asymptomatic that never were tested? I’ve seen reports/estimates it may be 10-30x as many.

“Personal responsibility” in quotation marks

“Racism’ “Sexism” “Social ‘justice’” NEVER in quotes (except here)

To be honest, I was prepared. Megadose vitamins. Take zinc with tonic water. Outside at least an hour a day. Exercise and stay in shape.

I got my Chinese Communist party virus from my wife. She’s not in as good a shape. She still had minor symptoms and is now negative.

Didn’t in this case. I did a title search and nothing came up. I must have messed something up.

‘(like in France, what was done here was a joke)’

I’m sure that the many business owners, their families and their employees that will have to find something else to do with their lives would appreciate your idea of a ‘joke’...

It’s so Mengele to watch parents mask their small children. The brain chemistry of constant fear of everyone and everywhere is likely to cause epigenetic changes in children. But then, the destruction of their own children has never been a problem. But it is hard for me to watch.
