Poll says less than half of Republicans support ‘gay marriage’
LifeSiteNews ^ | October 27th 2020 | Anthony Murdoch

A poll conducted earlier this year says that a majority of Republicans are opposed to same-sex “marriage” and that support for matrimony defined as between one man and one woman is higher amongst those who identify as “conservative” within the party.

The “2019 American Values Atlas” survey, published in April by the Washington D.C. based Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), which was mainly funded by pro-LGBTQ foundations.

In regards to marriage, the survey asked participants: “do you strongly favor, favor, oppose or strongly oppose, allowing gay and lesbian couples to legally marry?”

The poll found that overall, only 47 percent of Republicans voiced support for same-sex “marriage.”

When it came to those who identified as conservative Republicans, only 40 percent said they approve of same-sex “marriage.”

When it comes to Democrats, the survey found that the majority, 70 percent, reported being in favor of same-sex “marriage.”

Amongst Independents, a total of 66 percent reported support for same-sex “marriage.”

The PRRI lists itself as a “nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to conducting independent research at the intersection of religion, culture, and public policy.”

Their survey sampled a total of 53,474 people via “bilingual telephone interviews” from all 50 states throughout 2019.

Listed as funders for the “2019 American Values Atlas” survey are various foundations tied to the LGBTQ community, those being the Gill Foundation, the Arcus Foundation, the E. Rhodes & Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, and Unitarian Universalist Veatch Program at Shelter Rock.

The foundations individual websites show them all to be advocates for LGBTQ rights, which includes support for same-sex “marriage.”

The survey asked a variety of questions relating to LGBTQ issues, and overall states that 72 percent of Americans “support LGBT nondiscrimination protections” and that a majority (56 percent) oppose allowing small business owners “to refuse services to gay and lesbian people based on their religious beliefs.”

The survey also says that support for business owners who refuse “gay and lesbian people” service because of their faith, has increased.

“This landmark survey also finds some erosion in opposition to allowing business owners to refuse to serve gay and lesbian people based on their religious beliefs,” said PRRI CEO and Founder Robert P. Jones in a press release about the poll.

The PRRI survey says that a total of 56 percent of Americans “oppose allowing a small business owner in their state to refuse to provide products or services to gay or lesbian people, if doing so violates their religious beliefs.”

Of this amount, 39 percent of Republicans, 70 percent of Democrats, and 57 percent of Independents oppose allowing small business owners “to refuse service to gay and lesbian people based on their religious beliefs.”

The survey says that amongst Americans who view President Donald Trump “favorably,” just under half, 48 percent, support same-sex “marriage.”

For those that view Trump in a negative light, 74 percent say they support same-sex “marriage.”

Broken down by faith, the survey states that those who identified as white evangelical Protestants are the biggest religious group who oppose same-sex “marriage”, with only 41 percent in support.

For those who identified as Catholics, support for same-sex “marriage” is in the majority.

The survey states that 63 percent of “white Catholics” are in favor of same-sex “marriage,” rising to 68 approval amongst “Hispanic Catholics.”

Overall, the survey says that 62 percent of Americans support same-sex “marriage” with 33 percent being opposed, which is the same result as 2018.

In 2017 a Gallop survey found that 64 percent of those who were surveyed said that same-sex “marriage” should be recognized as valid, while 34 percent said that it should not be.

The PRRI survey says that overall, women (65 percent) are more than likely than men (58 percent) to show support for same-sex “marriage.”

Geographically speaking, the survey states that overall, the biggest opposition to same-sex “marriage” comes from those who live in the south, with only 57 percent approving.

In comparison, a total of 67 percent of those who live in the Northeast and 64 percent living in the Midwest approve of same-sex “marriage”

The PRRI survey also stated that opposition to same-sex “marriage” has increased amongst those who live in the West. In 2018, 67 percent of those surveyed approved, compared to 62 percent today.

Compared to a PRRI survey done in 2011 titled “The Millennials, Religion & Gay and Lesbian Issues Survey,” the “2019 American Values Atlas” survey suggests that support for same-sex “marriage” has risen overall amongst both Republicans and Democrats.

The 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision forced all U.S. states to legally recognize same-sex “marriage” in a 5-4 Supreme Court vote.

At the federal political level, while President Donald Trump has a long list of pro-life accomplishments and is very supportive of religious liberty, he supports same-sex “marriage.” In August Trump said that it was his “great honor” to be called the “the most pro-gay president in American history.”

Vice President Mike Pence on the other hand has a track record of being a strong social conservative on marriage issues.

In 2016, then U.S. Vice President and current Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden famously performed his first “wedding” ceremony between men.

Biden says he is a Catholic, but the Catholic Church does not recognise so-called same-sex “marriages.” Rather the Catholic Church teaches that marriage can only be between one man and one woman and that same-sex inclination is “objectively disordered,” while instructing “compassion, and sensitivity” for those with such tendencies.

Biden has in the past said he was opposed to same-sex “marriage” but publicly flip-flopped on the issue in 2008, and has been a staunch supporter of it ever since.

Hey, I don’t even support homosexual acts being LEGAL.

They should have remained illegal everywhere. We wouldn’t have the poofters running amuck if they had.

This was never a majority opinion. Even in California the people rejected it. The oligarchs just decided that everything is gay now and declared society has moved on.

“same-sex inclination is “objectively disordered,””

More like, clearly depraved, IMHO.

I don’t support the “marriage” of sodomites. I think it’s a disgusting practice.

Homosexuals can’t reproduce... they recruit.

If people would stop with their obsession discussing gays and racism, the issues would go away. Same with Covid. It’s become a religious cult for some people.

It was considered to be a "character and behavior disorder" until the libs attacked the American Phycology Association back in 1973

What!?
The title of this should be: "Shocking poll! 47% of Republicans toeing the communist line on perversion..."

You may well just be fed up with the issue and want it to go away as you indicate; however, the culture war isn’t over until Christ returns. Being annoying to some doesn’t mean those wanting to push back should roll over instead.

If people would stop acting like what they do with their genitalia is the end all be all of the pursuit of happiness maybe we could have among our State and local laws some of those common sense regulations we correctly had before the sexual devolution.

Even if poorly enforced they protected us from what has since overtaken our licentious society ... yet at the same time an society that increasingly wants to regulate every nuance of life and commerce that isn’t sex, or helps there be more sex ... like abortion on demand. So-called “progressives” are the absolute worst in this respect as we exist simply as funding mechanisms for the State (or else objects for their largess provided we support them, our betters) in their ideologies.

Country has more important things to deal with then these giant losers. This is a giant loser for us

Don’t like homosexual sex, don’t have, it is really easy to not be a homo

Don’t like homo weddings, don’t go to one

Don’t want to bake the homo wedding cake, charge them double and pay the bakery across town to make it for you and pocket the difference. That is how a capitalist thinks

Exactly

Biden is doing horrible, even the fake polls can’t cover it up anymore

Hillary was running a winning style campaign, a 1990’s style campaign, bit dated, but she was running a winning campaign, she did prevail because Trump did better

Biden is running the biggest losing campaign I have ever seen, worse the Kerry or Romney or even Dukakis. His campaign is a disaster, no body really knows what he stands for and every public interaction is almost a disaster for him. This is a not a winning campaign.

Even with 100% of the media, tech companies, government deep state behind him and he still looks like a loser.

Trump destroyed him at the last debate without even breaking a sweat, Trump gave up nothing while Biden gave away the democrat farm.

Remember when Hillary thought she had it in the bag?

She didn’t even campaign. She wasn’t in the best of health
and she didn’t want her small crowds to be overshadowed
by Trump’s.

What a hoot. There’s actually some pretty clear commonalities
between the two campaigns.

The media and fake polls are being used to sell what
can’t be sold.

Neither can draw a crowd.

Both are/were physically unable to show up in public much.

Neither have/or had a real solid platform to sell.

It seems to have gotten worse, and I can’t wait to see
how bad it gets in 2024.

What’s happening is corporations are all in on the homo agenda and they control the GOP establishment. The GOP surrendered on social issues long ago.

Before founding PRRI, Robert P. Jones, the CEO and of PRRI, worked as a consultant and senior research fellow at several think tanks in Washington, D.C., and was an assistant professor of religious studies at Missouri State University.

This guy is a blatant liberal and is being used here as a political advertisement. The survey they used was of a few adults (18+) living in the United States. Total respondents: 2,008 (805 landline, 1,203 cell phone) And that is a survey? He got what he wanted with the contacts and then spread his agenda out having it leak as a professional survey. This guy is a troll.

If you are a true Christian, you cannot support homosexual relations any more than you can support abortion on demand as the Bible condemns both.

I think that some people realize that when a fetus is in the womb different levels of testosterone and estrogen leave an imprint on the development of the brain. Some males turn out more female and some females turn out more male in their proclivities. The worst case scenario is hermaphroditism.
In my profession, I have seen this and other variations along the continuum of male vs female. I don’t think anyone wants to be gay. They just turn out that way. I think it’s good that 47% of the Republican Party is willing to understand how someone could be gay as long as they don’t try to shove it off on everyone else. Militant gays are another story like militants in any group. I don’t think anyone should be TOLD they must accept something they are not able to accept.
There is also a big difference between being attracted to adult males or females and pedophilia which is an attraction to children which is based on predatory behavior involving a unwilling, frightened recipient. That is like rape.

A question I asked over on lifesitenews that I will repeat here:

What happened here republicans? Did you forget everything that was done in its name? The business owners who had their estblishments boycotted by celebrities for having an opinion or lost their livelihoods or wound up with hundreds in thousands of dollars in legal fees because they didn’t want to participate in an event that went against their religious beliefs? Have you forgotten about Jack Phillips or Brendan Eich of Mozilla who was forced out of his position as ceo of Mozilla because he donated $1000 supporting prop 8?
The millions who had their votes thrown out because 5 robes decided to invent something out of whole cloth?

And what? You’ve caved?
