Among the things that Podhoretz didn't mention in his editorial is that any hopes that 97 had for winning the Presidency in 2004 went down with the WTC yesterday, IMHO. That picture may not deter voters in New York, but it will in flyover country...

ABG, you know this whole catastrophe just points up again to me that the PRIMARY function of the federal govt. is the security of the nation.

Education, welfare, etc. must be handled principally at the local level.

We must learn again to handle much of our affairs either with private means or local govt. action, leaving our nat'l. govt. to formulate & implement foreign & security policies.

This division of responsibilities is one of the great differences between liberals and conservatives.

36 USC 175(i) provides:

When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union [the stars for you folks in Palm Beach county] should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window, the flag should be displayed in the same way, with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street.

That should pretty much clear things up.

It is very important that Chuck Schumer called the President the Commander-in-Chief, and said he would follow his direction. It is important that Hillary Clinton (sorry, but this once I will use her name) said she gives the President her full support.

It is important because they need to have their minions hear this so that the country is united. This indicates to me that the briefing given Congress must have been extensive and far more serious than what we have surmised, even.

We are in a state of war and partisanship will stop. It must, if we are to prevail. The old politics went down with the World Trade Center. We are a different country today, and we must listen even to those whom we do not particularly like, because our national survival is at stake.

Time enough for recriminations when this is all over. It is a war between good and evil, as the President just said. I was SO PROUD of him, and I am certain that God gave us this man for just such a time as this.

Among other things that went up in smoke yesterday were the RATS hopes of retaking the House. Next year's campaign is going to see a lot of dem's running as fast as they can to the right just to hold onto their seats. I can almost guarantee that GOP strategists are already culling every little remark or photo-op that ties the liberals to the Palestinians or other radicals. As of now, Jesse Helms could go to New York and beat 97 for her Senate seat, simply based on that pic.
