Nice, relevant information. FYI I promote pharmaceuticals to urologists. I sell antibiotics. Cipro has an indication for anthrax, 28 days, 500mg bid. Levaquin doesn't. However, some data would suggest that Levaquin is effective against anthrax. This would makes sense since both meds are of the same class of antibiotic, called flouroquinolones. Some concerns with flouroquinolones include phototoxicity (severe burning when in the sun), potential QT prolongation, ligament softening and or deformation in young puppies. The ligament issue is why the drugs should not be used in children 18 years and younger. I do not know the recommended duration of treatment with levaquin for anthrax, but given that Cipro is 28 days for Anthrax, I would go with it for 28 days.

Great...my daughter is allergic to the quinolones. What else is currently being used? Traditionally I know penicillin G and tetracyclines have been used, but what about today?
