Stella Byrd, Mother of James Jr., Denies Claim

Stella and James Byrd,Sr., the mother and father of the late James Byrd, Jr., the man dragged to death in 1998, said Friday that they have no idea why two of their grandchildren have decided to fight the probate of their late father's estate.

Stella Byrd said the recent statements made by Rene Mullins are simply not true and that she and James Byrd, Sr. have done everything that they can to help the children and see that they have an education. According to Mrs. Byrd, one of the grandchildren is already attending college and a scholarship has been given to the other.

She says that part of the dispute stems from the fact that the grandchildren do not understand that a board and not the grandparents controls the funds of the James Byrd Foundation.

The split in the family apparently occurred recently when Mullins and Byrd, the daughter and son of the late James Byrd, Jr. hired an attorney and filed paperwork in County Court asking that the deceased's son be named as administrator of the estate.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS:
Rene Mullins is Byrd's daughter who made the commercial for the NAACP during the presidential election that showed a truck dragging a chain down a dirt road. It criticised GWB for not signing the "hate crimes" bill, with Rene saying, "...it was like my daddy died all over again." She does nothing for free. Evidently their 15 minutes are up and they need money.

I have no clue what kind of "estate" James Byrd, Jr., would have had. I guess they're fighting over his last SSI check.

Well, the next step in this process is simple: Whomever wins the battle will then trademark the James Byrd Image, Name, and Chain-Dragging Trucks, so that they will receive royalties anytime the DNC uses the aforementioned in a campaign ad... plus, when we have a federal 'James Byrd Day' holiday, they will also receive royalty payments from the gov't... pretty slick setup they have going on...

My guess is the parents set up a "foundation " for donations "for expenses "and for " the children"

I will further guess there is at least a million in there (lots of dumb liberal rich folk)

Freeper alert can some one here find out just how much money the"foundation" is holding on to?

Didn't she say "vetoed" in the ad? (of course, it never made it to his desk to be "vetoed")

The money was flowing in during the months following his death. Probably dried up.

During the trials, a guy was selling t-shirts with Byrd's picture. The family had him shut down because they were not getting a percentage. He gave away what he had left.

Who was greedy?

The James Byrd Foundation is supposed to be at http://www.byrdfoundation.org/ but it seems to have gone casters up. You can get the idea from a totally barf inducing site at: http://www.outsmartmagazine.com/issue/i12-01/ten.html for gays suggesting where they could make donations. Follow the Money!

James Byrd, Jr. Foundation for Racial Healing

After the horrific murder of James Byrd, Jr., his family responded with one of the best examples in memory of transforming hate into love–for all people. In their stand against hate crimes, the Byrd family has insisted that sexual orientation be included, culminating triumphantly in the May passage of Texas’s James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Act. Byrd’s mother, Stella Byrd, was a moving speaker at the HRC gala. As part of their response to hate, the Byrd family operates a foundation whose goal is educating the public in tolerance and respect for our diverse society. "We are focused more on changing hearts than any other aspect," says Darrell Varrett, Byrd’s cousin. "Since education is one of the keys to racial harmony, we travel around the states giving speeches to young and old and we also give out at least two scholarships a year." In addition, they operate an oral history project in which victims can tell their stories on tape.
