The most stupid of all government seems to be at City Hall.

Perhaps Silsbee can get some HUD money to build a Hilton, like our Tacoma, Washington did. Or get some state money to build a sports stadium like Seattle did.

These poor people are having to pay the tax out of their own pockets in order to compete with the motels outside the city limits!
The City Manager probably couldn't keep a business open three months!

...48-room motel...With a phone in each? How much phone tax is collected on that puppy?

Silsbee Mayor Dean Robinson believes the motel tax will help revive the city and lure tourists. Typical. Let's drive the motel out of business so that it will benefit down the road. Wonder how much revenue the city will get when the motel closes it's doors. DUH ALERT!

Silsbee Mayor Dean Robinson believes the motel tax will help revive the city and lure tourists. So you tax the only motel out of business? This would make perfect sense, if the mayor has his eyes on the land or has a brother-in-law in the motel business. Small-town politics can be pretty personal.

So how's the leg today?
To: lonestar
The city government could buy out the motel's owners and turn it into a motel museum, and tourists would come to see a bit of history.

Silsbee Mayor Dean Robinson believes the motel tax will help revive the city and lure tourists. I can hear it now:
"Mabel honey.... I hear Silsbee's just put a new tax on hotels. They say the new tax will revive the city and lure tourists. I've been hankering to stay at the Pinewood Inn and that new tax sure do sound attractive. Why don't you pack the bags and we'll just mosey on over there and THROW OUR MONEY DOWN ANOTHER GOVERNMENT RATHOLE."
To: Doomonyou
Thanks. A bit better. It's slow going though.
To: grlfrnd
thanks. typical for the area-Hardin county. my father was born in silsbee, which is only a short while away from here.

Silsbee Mayor Dean Robinson believes the motel tax will help revive the city and lure tourists. That has to be the funniest line I've read in a long time! I know Silsbee very well, and believe me when I say it will never be a tourist mecca! Sorry, but that line gave me the best laugh I've had in a while.

They have done something similar in this area, a tourist tax, on motels. It was easily voted in because no-one around here will be paying it, just the tourists.<>
