DeLay: Democrats Practicing Politics of Economic Destruction Leaders Should Restore Confidence, Not Talk Down Economy

WASHINGTON, July 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Texas) spoke out against the Democrats' strategy of 'talking down' the stock market and slow-walking corporate accountability and pension security legislation -- actions that hurt working Americans' retirement savings. Democrat leaders have said that through these tactics they can possibly reap political benefits in November.

"Now is the time for leaders to help instill confidence in our economy and confidence in our markets so that Americans who are nearing retirement don't continue to see their savings depleted and their lives devastated," DeLay said. "We have to make the principles of Main Street the foundation of Wall Street. Now is the time to protect the innocent, punish the guilty and restore confidence in the world's greatest economy."

DeLay pointed to Democrats tactics that indicate they are aiding the market decline and hoping for political benefits in November.

"In their words and deeds, the Democrat strategy is the political equivalent of insider trading," DeLay said. "Democrat leaders have talked down the market, they have slow-walked legislation to hold crooked CEOs accountable and have dragged their feet on legislation to protect Americans' retirement security and they have opposed real economic growth legislation.

"Now they want to pursue political gain from other's misery. There is right and wrong in this world and that is simply wrong.

"The corporate scandal was started from greed and a lack of moral leadership. This new Democrat strategy is filled with political greed and is morally bankrupt. Dick Gephardt and Tom Daschle are practicing the politics of economic destruction."

House Republicans passed legislation to hold corporations accountable months ago while Senate Democrats failed to act recently. The House also passed stiff criminal penalties for corporate lawbreakers that Democrats tried to water down. The Democrat Senate has also failed to act on retirement security legislation the House passed more than three months ago. As part of their cynical strategy, Senate Democrat Leader Tom Daschle has said they won't take up that legislation until September.

They are doing what they once accused Bush of doing. They do not give a flying rat's behind what damage they bring on this country.....as long as they get what they want. The democrat has become a pseudo religion. They make the taliban look like pikers.
