VATICAN CITY -- Pope John Paul II says that to preserve itself, the Roman Catholic Church has to be much more careful not to let men with "deviations in their affections" enter the priesthood.

The 82-year-old pontiff also re-affirmed the Church's rule on celibacy, saying it should not be seen as a "useless" imposition but a vital part of a tradition in which the priest offers himself unconditionally to God.

This statement may be the first step toward taking back the seminaries from the homosexual subversives. The U.S. bishops had their chance to fix the real problem. Instead they created a purely retroactive "zero tolerance" proposal as ineffective as the current airline security screening system. Rather than just look for the "weapons", the Pope appears to be laying the groundwork for the real solution, profiling the terrorists long before they get to the airport.

The Pope understands what needed to be done. And he has done it.

Liberal howling and wailing to follow...

I am not a Catholic and do not fully agree with some of their ideas, but applaud the Pope for his stance.

I do hope that he was including homosexuals and not just pedophiles in his comments (I assume that he is).

I understand that the RCC is a big bureaucracy just like a gov't, so can understand the reason for the delay in his speaking out.

I appreciate your viewpoint. I admired this Pope long before I became a Catholic, sadly more than most of the Catholics I knew at the time did.

deviations in their affections

The Pope answers to a higher power. It's refreshing to hear/see that someone in authority, when pushed to the edge, will finally make the right/moral decision. Not only will the liberals and homos scream bigotry and homophobe, but the pyschiatric associations will criticize the church for not being "with the times" even though 20 years ago their text books said the same thing.

I am happy and relieved to be reading these comments from the Pope. Cleansing and then healing is what is needed.

Its time the pope came out with this.

I hope this helps repair out church.

I see that the falsely accused priests ( which i hope is the majority ) are striking back.

I wish they would go for big defamation settlements to pay off the other lawsuits.

I we had as many false accusations as real ones ( which I suspect) , then the jury awards will be a wash.

He said the Church had to be careful not to allow men who had what he said were obvious "deviations in their affections" from entering seminaries to train for the priesthood.

-----------------------------

Boy is this ever going to raise hell. The system here is going to attempt not to comply with it.

It's about time. I'll really start to cheer when Protestant churches get the message too.

The Bible depicts deviancy as an evil in so many ways that the rationalizations I hear out of the seminary class are beyond belief (my extended family and friends include a good many Presbyterian theologians, church administrators, and ministers).

Who should take Christian churches seriously with that kind of rot in the centers of their intellectual integrity?

That this same group has conferred upon themselves the "elite" status (to protect their own from civil prosecution for violating children) warranted and clearly abetted the slow desertion we have seen in Christian churches in both Europe and America. It was that alienated status as a priestly class (as opposed to the honor of service to fellow sinners) which (to me) did the damage that made this tolerance for deviancy possible.

The Church will be vastly better for this, as long as they truly follow through. Time will tell.

Catholic News Service
DALLAS (CNS) -- Prominent writer and lecturer Father Kenneth J.
Roberts,
a retired priest of the Dallas Diocese, was suspended for violating
restrictions placed on him upon his retirement in 1995.
Over the years Father Roberts has been a popular speaker at Catholic
youth and other events, and is known for his books and more recently for
moderating a an online Catholic discussion group.
Dallas Bishop Charles V. Graham signed the decree of suspension Nov. 13
following verification of some reports that Father Roberts had violated
restrictions placed upon him when he retired.
The English-born Father Roberts, ordained in 1966 for the Dallas
Diocese,
retired from the diocese for medical reasons on Sept. 1, 1995, and the
diocese
severely restricted his faculties, barring him from exercising his priestly
duties, wearing clerical garb and presenting himself as a Roman Catholic
priest in good standing.
He was forbidden to make public appearances or public speaking
engagements, he was not to have connection with youth activities and he was
to
confine his ministry to writing.
His retirement followed public accusations of sexual molestation,
though
no civil or criminal charges have ever been filed against him.
Father Roberts, 68, has been active in an independent ministry for more
than 25 years in Illinois and Missouri.
He is the author of a 1971 autobiographical book ``Playboy to Priest,''
about his experiences as a jet-setter prior to his ordination in 1966. He
also
is the author of a book called ``Nobody Calls It Sin Anymore,'' published in
1997.
He has made many appearances on Mother Angelica's Eternal Word
Television
Network and promotes audio and videotapes over the Internet. He has appeared
in churches promoting the reported appearances of Mary at Medjugorje,
Bosnia-
Herzegovina. He formed an Internet vocations club in 1997.
The Dallas Morning News has reported two cases where individuals who
accused Father Roberts of sexual molestation received funds for treatment or
settlement from the Dallas Diocese. The diocese has not confirmed or denied
the reports.

By Fatima, the teens did not know the sicko and the real Enemy ,this is all made up,fun to be saint for a day, Father Ken is no longer a priest my kids use to watch him and trust him .Encounters With The Enemy

One feature common to most apparitions is that whenever Mary comes with a message of peace and conversion, a visit by Satan soon follows. There seems to be a sort of heavenly rule involved: Those privileged to experience special graces must often suffer from diabolical attacks.

One person to suffer from such an attack is Father Ken Roberts, the popular lecturer and evangelist. Father Roberts would often bring groups of teenagers over to Medjugorje for a pilgrimage. Being in Medjugorje often inspired most of the youths to commit themselves to living their faith. It was a place of great grace, and Father Roberts decided to capitalize on the opportunity for the conversion of rebellious teens. But a small number of the teens showed more interest in partying than praying.

One night one of these teens rushed into Father Robert's room and woke him with some startling news: Satan had come as a surprise guest to the nightly party and was now terrorizing the would-be revelers. Father at first thought this was another prank. But the fear in the boy's eyes made him think otherwise.

After entering the room, the priest noticed a severe drop in temperature. It had suddenly become bone-chillingly cold. Then he was overcome by the stench of sulfur. All doubt of a demonic presence left him when he heard an unearthly voice resound through the room: "Ha, ha, ha! I know who you are, priest of God!"

The voice was coming through the lungs and lips of a young seminarian. Father had brought him along to help oversee the teens on the trip. But this was not the seminarian Father Roberts knew. The man's face was contorted with rage with his eyes rolling wildly. His hand held a menacing switchblade. And his body--his skinny, unathletic body--was just barely restrained by the hold of four husky males.

Father had never been in such a situation before. As a post-Vatican II priest, he did not have much of an idea what to do. He tried laying hands on the seminarian and praying, but was assaulted with a string of curses and filth such as he had never heard before or since. He tried saying prayers in English, Latin, and French, only to hear the possessed seminarian mimic his every word-backwards. In desperation, the priest finally threw some holy water onto the young man. The seminarian returned to his senses. The smell of sulfur was cleansed from the air, and the coldness was gone. The demon had vanished ."

I was listening to a Catholic writer and expert the other day, who had the best line ever: He said (paraphrasing)
Demanding that the church should allow priestly marriage to stop homosexuality is to define marriage as a "Prevention Program."
