In relation to government employees, I believe it is the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment. "Life liberty or property ( and I believe government employment is "property" within that clause.

Wrong. God, you people here are so ignorant. Where do you come up with this stuff? Do you think they have to have a due process hearing when a cabinet secretary or thousands of staffers lose their job at the change of administration? Or all those democrat congressional employees that lost their jobs when the GOP took over?

There are a few matters, broadly mentioned in Responses #11 and #12, which are specifically prohibited. In California recently, it was decided that an employee's right to discuss his salary and bonus with other employees was upheld. He had been fired because this was prohibited by the company policy, which has been amended appropriately, and the employee won back pay &c.
