The Nevada Supreme Court ordered the state Legislature back to work Thursday, lifting the constitutional provision that has allowed Republicans to block a tax plan and public education funding for almost six months.

By a 6-1 vote, the court said Nevada

“People are going to pay a whole lot more attention to the people that they elect to the Supreme Court,” Beers said. “I don’t believe that the skeptics will understand how violated Nevadans feel about this until the next election. This is so far out of step with the desires of Nevadans that there are going to be a lot of angry citizens.”

And what exactly would the court do if the legislature refuses? Hold them in contempt?

The court nullified the 2/3 majority vote on new taxes which paves the way for a 50% +1 vote approval of the budget. Even if the holdouts walked out, the rest of NV legislature has the votes to pass the budget.

This whole charade is a lot of baloney. The legislature should just fund the schools as the court required and then shut down the rest of the government (including this same court) until a budget is passed.

I have a better solution. Pass a 99% Wealth Tax on the Honorable Members of the Supreme Court of Utah along with what ever other taxes they are forced to raise.

IIRC, the judges run non-partisan campaigns. The current make-up is largely dem (I believe there's one republican on the court). Think of the Florida SC.
