Mexico - Hurricane Ignacio moves north along Baja California peninsula

(La Paz, Mexico-AP) Aug. 24, 2003 - Authorities on the Mexican Pacific coast are scrambling as Hurricane Ignacio moves north.

Ignacio appeared to side-swipe the resort of Cabo San Lucas. Authorities in the area had closed down the airport and evacuated hundreds of people.

The storm is moving north along the Baja California peninsula and could be heading toward the Mexican state capital of La Paz. The governor there has ordered the evacuation of low-lying areas around the city and is urgently telling all vessels to leave the harbor.

It's not clear if the eye of the storm will make landfall or spin out to sea. But forecasters warn the worst case is possible that Ignacio may move ashore with the force of a major hurricane.

From the looks of the tracking map, landfall is certain at this point.

If I were living in the deserts of the US Southwest I'd move to higher ground at soon as possible. The last hurricane remant that went through the US Southwest recently caused massive damage in the Las Vegas, NV area and the Mojave Desert and caused a lot of strong storms to go through northern Califoria.

Look again.
Any good atlas will do.

It has always been Baja California, called Baja for short.
Before our California existed even.
I worry about Alta California.
