Prayers for Fr. Greeley’s recovery and his conversion.
May the Lord grant him the grace of repentance.
I hope he goes to CONFESSION....he is NOT a good man.
What ever happened to “Christians love one another” - but maybe that is for Christians, not Catholics. I know of no Christian who would be so lacking in charity -but such lack is common among Catholics who are so self-righteous.
I doubt that these people even know the man. He is most respected among his fellow Chicago priests, and is one of the most generous men alive though few are aware of his generosity.
These comments reflect the reason why fewer and fewer Catholics attend Mass. There is no Christlike behavior here. Pray for him and for them!

i would agree with you that the responses here do not reflect Christian charity, but please do not generalize these sentiments as being somehow peculiar to Catholics or even conservatives. I have spent just a little bit of time at DU (FR’s liberal evil twin) and the posting there is generally vulgar and unbelievably disgusting. FR is a tea party, relatively speaking
and oh yes Catholics are Christians and in fact it is a historical fact that most Protestants have quite a lineage of Catholics in their spiritual pedigree. As they say, if you can read this, thank a teacher. If you’re a Christian, NOS, thank the Catholic church

If you recall, Christ didn’t hold hands with people that perverted God’s law. Greeley=Pharisee
The greatest love one can wish on a person is that he goes to heaven when he dies.
In order to do that, that person must die without the guilt of mortal sin on his soul.
Therefore, to hope or pray that someone else dies in a state of repentance and conversion is just about the greatest expression of love possible toward that person. It is not in any way, shape, or form an expression of "self-righteousness". In fact, many traditional Catholics will tell you that to "pray for a good death," for both yourself and the ones you love, is very important.
And yes, you absolutely have permission to pray that I die in state of repentance and conversion. (If I didn't have a family to attend to, I'd give you leave to add "tomorrow" after "die".)
I don’t see anything wrong with praying that Father Greeley will someday become a Christian? What’s cruel about that?
I’m praying that he recovers from his injuries, and also that he stops teaching error and publicly retracts what he has taught.
You can pray for me to depart from evil and learn to do good before I die, too. (Tomorrow, if I didn’t have a family to attend to.)
I hope it knocked some sense into him and he asks for forgiveness.
Amen. Father Greeley has, indeed, many personal faults, vanity being the chief among them. But much the same is true of many of us, and so we owe him as a fellow Catholics our prayers for his recovery, body and soul. Still he has done much to cofuse Catholics with his mix of orthodoxy and heterodoxy and his infidelity to his mission.
Amen to all that.
I feel badly that my first thought on reading the news was not for his recovery, but about all the harm he has done and will continue to do, in all probability, if he resumes writing. I’m committed to praying for his recovery every day.
There’s no question that we’re all sinners, and I’d be willing to stipulate that I’m worse than Fr. Greeley ... 50/50 chance, right? But few of us have the scope to mislead so many for so long.

Apropos of your comment, C.S. Lewis (I am always quoting him, but he says it so well) noted that the stain of sin on one's soul is the same regardless of how many people your sin affects. He said that one man may be placed so that his anger causes the death of millions, while another is in a situation where his anger only results in people laughing at him. But the sin is the same.
I do think however that priests and bishops have a special and terrifying trust, since they are responsible for their flock under orders from Christ Himself. That would scare the absolute fire out of me.
