The 7 Spiritual Works of Mercy

The 7 Spiritual Works of Mercy
To counsel the doubtful
To instruct the ignorant
To admonish the sinner
To comfort the sorrowful
To forgive all injuries
To bear wrongs patiently
To pray for the living and the dead

We are not as familiar with the Spiritual Works of Mercy as we are with the Corporal Works of Mercy.

I would say that we have many opportunities to practice the Spiritual Works of Mercy, some of us, however, hesitate. Speaking for myself, I can't tell you why unless fear steps into the picture -- and we all know that fear (that kind of fear, at least) comes from the evil one below.

Lord forgive me, and grant me new insights and courage in this area.

This is an open thread for all to discuss the Spiritual Works of Mercy. How do you practice them? When? Where?

"Reference Matthew 25 and Tobias 12. "To visit the imprisoned" was originally listed as "to ransom the captives," referring to the ransoming of Christians taken prisoner during Moslem aggression.

Found this footnote interesting in the Corporal Works of Mercy.

Thank you for posting Salvation! Great reminders! Looking at the list, these are the ones I tend to practice:
To counsel the doubtful
To instruct the ignorant
To comfort the sorrowful

To bear wrongs patiently

(don't always do this!! and not always patiently.)
To pray for the living and the dead
(this is a joy. especially I try to pray for my enemies. We all know that one can be a tough one to bear on certain days.

I am not good at getting up in people's grills about their sinning as I am such a sinner myself. It seems hypocritical for me. However practicing one and two on the list, as i have mentioned I do above, can be a strong corrective and preventative as well. Blessings to all!!!

Number One Pray.

Number Two Pray.

Number Three Pray.

If you really know God which really comes from praying, all else will follow. The Holy Spirit will prompt you.

Read the scriptures and the catechism

Do as required

Go to Mass

Watch the Mass(TVor Web streaming)

If you watch or go Mass in 3 years you heard most of the Bible

Eventually you will grow from a baby Christian to a fully mature Christian

Of course God is showing us something with this post

Thank you Salvation.

This one, I really found intriguing!

The 4 Sins that Cry Out to Heaven
Willful murder
The sin of Sodom
Oppression of the poor
Defrauding laborers of their wages

Note:
Genesis 4, Genesis 18, Exodus 2, James 5, respectively.

I recognize the Scriptures for all of them, but never saw them lined up together in this fashion.

Thank you for this post, Salvation.

Well, this weekend my family will be praying for the dead. A church friend is having a memorial service for her father, whom we have never actually met. But we are invited, and we will honor his life and stand with our friend.

Actually, I think these are not difficult — except for “Admonish the sinner” and, especially “Beary wrongs patiently”.

I think most of the Catholics here on FR do this daily. I can not speak for everyone, however.

I attended a funeral Mass today. It was the wife of one of my deceased uncles. (Actually, all of my uncles are deceased. The death of this lady leaves only one from my father’s generation still with us in my family. She was the wife of another uncle. My da had 10 brothers and sisters.)
