Obama Our Most Anti-Life President, Monsignor Says

I made a visit this past weekend to the University of California, Irvine to attend the Medjugorje Peace Conference, a gathering of very traditional, very conservative Catholics.

The standout speaker during the two-day conference was Monsignor Jim Lisante, pastor of Our Lady Of Lourdes Parish in Massapequa, New York, whose homilies are available on ITunes (free of charge), and who often appears on FOX News to speak on matters of faith.

The Monsignor offered the most scathing critique of President Obama’s social policies I’ve heard from any cleric in America – Catholic, Protestant, Jewish or other..

He began by recounting a conversation he once had with the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, who served as Archbishop of Chicago during the 1980s and 1990s, who first articulated the doctrine that there is a “seamless garment” of life.

The Cardinal told future Monsignor Lisante that life was the defining moral issue of the latter part of the 20th century. Much as slavery was the defining moral issue of the mid-19th century.

Obama is on the wrong side of the life issue, Monsignor Lisante told an audience at UC Irvine. And he admonished the 53 percent of Catholics who say they accept the Church’s teachings on the sanctity of life, on the abomination of abortion, who nonetheless voted for Obama in 2008.

The twisted thinking of Obama Catholics, he said, is that, while they disagree with Obama on the one issue – abortion – they agree with him on many more issues. Thus, they gave him their votes.

But there are, said Monsignor Lisante, “certain disqualifying issues” for candidates seeking public office.

If you agreed with a candidate on every issue but found out he was a child molester, you wouldn’t vote for him, he said. If you saw eye to eye with him on the all the issues but found out he beat his wife, you wouldn’t vote for him.

And so it is for those who truly believe in the sanctity of life; who agree that abortion is the moral issue of our time. It cannot be regarded as just another issue, no more or less important than, say, climate change or student aid or PBS subsidies. It’s a make or break issue, the Monsignor argued.

Obama, he said, is the most anti-life president in history. And the Democrat revealed just how much of an abortion extremist he is all the way back in 2003, when he was a member of the Illinois state legislature.

A measure came before the legislature – the “Born-Alive Infants Protection Act – that recognized as persons babies that survived attempted abortions; that required doctors to provide them care.

State Sen. Obama voted against the measure not once, not twice, but three times.

He felt absolutely no qualms about sending to their deaths even babies who, by the grace of God, were born alive. Obama voted three times for infanticide.

“We cannot be silent in the face of this evil,” said Monsignor Lisante.

Indeed, that applies not only to the Catholic faithful, but to all people of conscience.

Amen to Monsignor Lisante for daring to call out Obama publicly on his abortion extremism.

We go to a large non-denominational church, and this is the first year our pastor has talked to the congregation about voting with the party that reflects the “morality” of the Bible. Three points he made were marriage, abortion, and standing with Israel.

We happened to be tuning the dial on the radio, and came across a sermon with John MacArthur saying the same thing...as a Christian you must stand with morality, and listed the same three areas.

Read an article by a black preacher who was preaching as much to his congregation.

Then my dad called me this morning and told me in our local paper there is an full page ad from Billy Graham, saying the exact thing: Stand with the party that is pro-life, traditional marriage, and for Israel.

In the past, I think the clergy have failed to have a voice, but that’s not happening this year.

I think the clergy have been wary of speaking against candidates like Obama, for fear that their churches would be threatened by the IRS with loss of their tax exempt status.

I have to call it cowarice. The IRS has, to my knowledge, pulled the tax exemption of only one Church in several decades: that was the "Church at Pierce Creek" in Buinghampton NY in 2005, for buying a full-page ad in USA Today in which they defiantly made an overt political endorsement. They practically had to beg or dare the IRS to bust them.

And I call it 10,000 x cowardace for my Church, the Catholic Church, in particular, for not even enforcing its own internal Canon Law requirements (Canon 915), let alone speaking out in the Public Square.

I must examine my own conscience for cowardice, sloth, and hypocrisy.

Sorry for the typos. I type erratically and hit “Post” with a punch when I’m mad!
