> But didn’t Christ find one Church?

Yes he did and the pagan idolatry of the dying Roman Empire corrupted it. Nevertheless it was allowed to flourish until such a time that humanity was ready to throw off those pagan trappings and start rediscovering Christ and true worship without a pantheon of intermediaries.

"Yes he did and the pagan idolatry of the dying Roman Empire corrupted it."

Well, then Christ couldn't live up to his promises and the Church was led into error, right?

Mat 16:18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

John 14:26 But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you.

Mat 28:20 behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

According to your theory there was a time when Jesus left his Church and it became corrupted. I can't accept that.
