BILBO'S JOURNEY: A CATHOLIC TRAVEL GUIDE TO THE HOBBIT (Dec 5 at 11pm on EWTN)
EWTN ^ | December 5, 2013 | Francis Dolores

Posted on 12/05/2013 2:03:32 PM PST by NYer

Before you visit theatres for the second installment of the film based on J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved "The Hobbit," brush up on your elvish and pack your "Baggins," because Tolkien Scholar Joseph Pearce is taking you on an extensive tour of the Catholic themes found in "the Hobbit" in a new hour-long special, "Bilbo's Journey!" Based on his popular book, Pearce takes you far beyond the surface of this classic tale's plot, and delves deep into a symbolic journey that truly finds the middle ground between Middle Earth and our own Catholic Faith.

Begin your journey through Tolkien's fantastical world with Fr. Mark and Doug Barry as they host an exclusive interview with Joseph Pearce on a special LIVE "Life on the Rock" at 10 p.m. ET on Thursday, December 5. Then stay tuned as Joseph Pearce takes the "sting" out of the bumps and blisters along the road of "Bilbo's Journey" at 11 p.m. ET.

Sounds interesting.

I would point out that if the title was “Christian Guide to the Hobbit” I would actually read it

It’s really good. We had a private screening 3 nights ago here. Don’t watch the Wolf of Wall Street. It’s total garbage and this is coming from one of the crew whom I know personally who worked with DiCrapio.

Thanks! I’m not Catholic, but most of my friends are, and we’re all Tolkein fans.

I’ve shared the info on my FB page so they’ll know too!

Thanks again!

Mark

So you'd decline to read it, because it has the word Catholic in it, even though the author is Catholic, and the author about whom he is writing was Catholic as well?

That’s your typical FR ‘Christian’ for you. I’ve been on FR for years and I’ve never seen so many narrow-minded, bigoted ‘Christians’ in my life. So much for Christ’s love and outreach to all people.
