NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) – A church is in a clash with Nevada County after being told to take down a sign with an American flag and a message to support the troops.

Simple Truth Church put up the sign to cover an old, rundown billboard. However the “Support Our Troops” sign is becoming quite controversial. If the church doesn’t remove the sign, it could be fined.

Most drivers CBS13 spoke with did not have a problem with the sign.

“It doesn’t bother me at all,” said one person.

The article leaves many unanswered questions. Who owns the sign? Does the sign belong to the church? Is it considered a commercial sign that is part of the church? Or is it a standalone billboard? Just wondering.

Replace the sign with a pro-DNC message.

What’s really sad, is Nevada County is supposedly one of the more conservative Counties.

Now the officials claim they needed a permit to change the sign, even though the sign had a previous realty sign message for over 20 years that never had any permit issues.

Anyone claiming that a "Permit" is needed to put a message on a sign needs to beaten until they cannot stand up.

It is none of government's business what someone wishes to put on a sign provided it doesn't directly hurt someone.

Why are they going to be fined?

What possible reason that the article as excerpted didn’t tell us (yet)?

Assuming the sign is in an area where a local ordinance (for example) requires new signs to have a permit / meet some sort of “aesthetics” requirements, or whatever, but older signs were “grandfathered in”, I can see how this situation could come up. I personally think it’s over-regulation unless the area is a national park or something, but that’s beside the point — many areas have such regulations, and if citizens want them or don’t want them, they should get involved in the local political scene.

However... If the “officials” were reasonable and the church simply didn’t know that a permit was required, the “classy” thing to do would be to simply assist the church in getting a permit, back date it, and dispense with the threats of fines or forcibly removing the sign.

Unfortunately, far too many such officials are on power trips. Not all, by any means, but far too many.

“Support Our Troops”

Change the sign to “Pray For Our Troops” let's see them order that one taken down.
