It is truly disheartening to see this constant barrage of insults of the Holy Father. We might not understand or agree with everything he says, but if you are truly Catholic, you believe he is Christ’s vicar on earth. Instead of bashing him for every word out of his mouth or every action he does, we need to be praying for him. All of these Pope Francis bashing threads just cause more scandal against the church. If you don’t feel you can trust him, trust the Holy Spirit that put him there. I do not know God’s plan in all of this, but I am certain He has one. Give it to God and trust in Him.

“If you don’t feel you can trust him, trust the Holy Spirit that put him there.”

I do not believe for a minute that The Holy Spirit put ‘Francis’ there.

“Then trust in God.”

Are you saying the Holy Spirit is not God?

The poll was of members of the Catholic denomination.

That's the problem... we don't all speak with the same voice as we should. There are very liberal Catholics out there. That's why I would like to know if this is the faithful crowd (Mass every Sunday) or the cafeteria crowd. It makes a huge difference.

No. Are you saying the Holy Spirit is not God? And that you do not trust Him?

The majority of that church denomination are liberals, we already know that.

Why do you think that the pro-abortion left has been importing them by the tens of millions since 1965?

The problem is the encyclical consists almost entirely of unmitigated bullshit.

As a practicing Roman Catholic I feel I need to remind everyone that this institution has had all kinds of bad popes and when they forget the admonition “My Kingdom Is Not If This World” .It gets into all sorts of trouble. But survives.

These meandering homilys of this Pope on temporal matters diffuse any theologic message Pope Francis offers. Snowballs should be thrown at those pointy hat supporters of his as well as opposition clearly expressed to those meanderings on any visit Francis may make here.

You are playing word games. God did not put Francis there as ‘pope’, men did, men in the Roman Catholic church hierarchy. And you know that is what I said in my earlier post.

I don’t hate anybody. But I know the difference between real Catholics and fake Catholics and Protestants. To tell you the truth, I can’t tell the difference between the latter two. Which cult do you belong to?

How many Scotsman do you know?

There wouldn't be these threads if Francis wasn't causing scandal in the first place.

If you don’t feel you can trust him, trust the Holy Spirit that put him there.

Are you sure it was the Holy Spirit that put him there? Are you sure that the Cardinals were listening to the Holy Spirit?

I do not know God’s plan in all of this, but I am certain He has one.

Oh, I trust that He will bring good out of this. Part of that good is that Catholics are discussing the bad about Francis. Would you have told Saint Athanasius to shut up too?

Shortly after this, they fell silent as the Vatican issued a book compiling all the papal interviews, primarily those most controversial ones with the Marxist atheist Eugenio Scalfari, and calling it formally part of the Francis magisterium.

Whoa. How did I miss this? What book is this?

I agree with your statement that the Holy Spirit effectively put the Pope in place. And am bewildered by the Pope’s attitude with respect to the remarks he makes, and yet he seems to have no understanding of how his words are taken. Beyond that, the encyclical has some paragraphs (23, 24 and 25, for example) that the Church will never be able to defend. Pray for Pope Francis; he has surrounded himself with some real hare-brains for advisors.

Why the false title “Holy Father”? Never did we see Paul, Peter, James etc be referred to in this manner.

You are dangerously close to making the Pope an idol. Which is pretty common since JPII.

The Pope, even in Catholic theology, can be wrong. There have been Popes condemned before.

-—Never did we see Paul, Peter, James etc be referred to in this manner.-—

Paul refers to Timothy repeatedly as his child and son. He also says, “I became your father in Jesus Christ through the Gospel.”

Peter and John said similar things.

The office of the chief steward or vice-regent of the ancient Davidic kingdom, the type for the papacy, is referred to as the “father to Jerusalem.” See Isaiah 22.

False equivalence on Paul and Timothy.....keep the context of the passage in mind when reading.

Paul never viewed himself as catholics view the "pope".
