Atheists Bring Down a Historic Cross in Santa Clara, CA

In the Santa Clara WEEKLY that I picked up yesterday, I learned that atheist activists won yet another battle locally to eradicate religious symbols from public life. Removal of Park Cross: City Cave-in or Prudent Compromise? described the removal from city property of a 14 foot granite cross that stood in the Mission Cross Park in Santa Clara for nearly 64 years.

Much pressure is being put on cities to remove Christian religious symbols. Sometimes even when Christian images are banned, by some lapse of logic, pagan idols are not. Near where I live in San Jose, for example, nativity scenes were forbidden for a while in the yearly Christmas in the Park event. Wrap your mind around that idea for a second: scenes of the birth of Christ were not being allowed at a Christmas event! What made the situation even more irrational is Christmas in the Park is held in the same city park that features a sculpture of an Aztec god. That offensive sculpture is not only a homage to Quetzalcoatl but is notorious for its distastefully scatalogical appearance. (See Mama! Mira! Caca en la Plaza! for more about that particular waste of taxpaper money.)

So it's distressing to see the intolerance spread to Santa Clara. The Mission Park Cross in Santa Clara was erected by the Lion's Club in 1953 to mark the second location of the Mission Santa Clara de Asis established by Franciscan missionaries in 1779. The article noted that local residents are protesting that the public was not aware of the decision until the cross was gone, and the WEEKLY did not know either until a local resident, Gary Sudano notified the press. Sudano was upset with the City for giving away the cross, stating, "There was no news locally that..........

“Atheism is a natural and inseparable part of Marxism, of the theory and practice of scientific socialism.”

“We must hate. Hatred is the basis of communism.”

“We must combat religion. That is the ABC of all materialism, and consequently of Marxism.”

— Lenin
And they claim that atheism and communism are two separate things while they exhibit the behavior of communists.

This is not about banning religious symbols in public areas. It’s all about getting back at Christians for, for...something.

Yeah but these liberals aren’t simply atheist, they’re pagan/satanic.

I was going by the title.

Ultimately, atheism is just another form of paganism anyhow.

So, when do the atheists make Santa Clara change its name?

Well, I don’t necessarily agree. It’s a form of idolatry, I guess, but a true atheist doesn’t believe in anything supernatural.

The bay area is full of non-atheist non-Christian, anti-Christians.

I think the group that brought the lawsuit is an atheist group.

But, I think of those atheists as religious atheists. If they were real atheists it wouldn’t matter to them.

Someone should found a country based on a rejection of religious persecution.

Oh, wait!

In the strict sense, that’d certainly be true.

What most of the world calls “atheism” has been politicized for 168 years thus far, and that’s now entrenched.

I suppose the cross had to go because it happens to be just a few blocks away from the Islamic Center on Catherine. Was the atheist an atheist or a muslim?

Atheists didn't bring down that cross. Our fellow "Americans" did.

Demographics of Santa Clara:

The 2010 United States Census[14] reported that Santa Clara had a population of 116,468. The population density was 6,327.3 people per square mile (2,443.0/km²). The ethnic makeup of Santa Clara was 52,359 (45.0%) White, 3,154 (2.7%) African American, 579 (0.5%) Native American, 43,889 (37.7%) Asian (13.6% Indian, 6.9% Chinese, 6.2% Filipino, 3.9% Vietnamese, 3.0% Korean, 1.5% Japanese), 651 (0.6%) Pacific Islander, 9,624 (8.3%) from other races, and 6,212 (5.3%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 22,589 persons (19.4%); 14.6% of Santa Clara's population was of Mexican ancestry.

I've been arguing with the cucks on this forum for a few weeks about immigration and race.

They are still CONVINCED that the Constitution will ride in on a silver horse and save us all, because "All men are created equal!"

Fools.

The memorial cross, a gift to the City from the Santa Clara Lions Club, was placed at the then undeveloped site in 1953 to mark the location of the official second site of Mission Santa Clara de Asis, founded in 1777. The FFRF and its members, including Santa Clara resident Andrew DeFaria, a co-plaintiff in the lawsuit, argued that the cross was a religious symbol and thus, that displaying the cross on public property violated the separation of church and state.

Atheists and Mooslims have so much in common. It’s almost as if they were separated at birth.

It is not the atheist that did this. It is the city officials and judges who make these decisions.

If you hadn’t posted that then I was prepared to do the job.
The coast of California is where Father Junipero Serra
established missions. They stretch from San Diego to
San Francisco and I believe there are about 21 of them
established in the latter 18th Century within California.
Including those two communities our atheist “friends”
should have a tall order ahead.
