Lavrov Warns Against Involving Orthodox Churches in Political Games

Belgrade, February 22, Interfax - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he is confident that the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches will be able to live through this "difficult time," when attempts are being made in various countries to involve churches in political games, with dignity.

During his speech at the presentation of the mosaic dome of the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade on Thursday, Lavrov said that "today's event symbolizes spiritual and cultural closeness between our citizens, our Churches."

"It seems to me especially important to demonstrate such unity in a period when the Russian Orthodox Church and the Serbian Orthodox Church are going through a strength test. We all see how attempts are being made to involve Churches in political games in Ukraine, in Montenegro, or in Macedonia," he said.

Lavrov said the Orthodox faith "has always given confidence in what our churchgoers do, in what our citizens do."

"And I am also convinced that our churches will live through these difficult times with dignity, like Orthodox Christians have always done," the Russian foreign minister said.

Nigel warned that Brexit is being tinkered with by the politicians in the UK in contrast to a better situation in the USA with Trump.

Shameless projection. The Moscow patriarchiate is the most politicized (and militarized) of all. And Orthodox faithful in places Ukraine - including those formerly sympathetic to Russia’s orbit are incredibly disillusioned and feel betrayed.

Lavrov and his ilk have a turned such Ukrainians against Russia for at least a generation. And again these were people who identified more closely with Russia more than Europe.

And the way they are trying sabotage the Holy Land via Syria. Allying with Iran. PLUS: Syrian Christians are a lot more diverse in their views of Assad than Russian State TV suggests...

LAVROV: voted against Jerusalem to be capital of Israel.

LAVROV: lures and bribes Muslim interests with promises to negotiate a Palestinian State. Disgrace! Against GOD!

Its like do whatcha gotta do for your Bolshevik KGB boss Putin, but leave God’s name out of it. Blasphemy!

This needs to be read in light of the fact Russia’s people and their Muslim communities have a vastly different relationship in how they view one another than westerns do...both historically and currently.

Islam is considered as one of Russia’s ‘traditional’ religions, legally a part of Russian ‘historical heritage’ and now the second largest religion in Russia..... currently there are about 8,000 mosques in Russia.

And it is not near as disfunctional as other societies with Muslim population of near that much.

...”it is not near as disfunctional as other societies with Muslim population of near that much”...

Exactly...Unlike other Muslim minorities in Europe, Muslims in Russia are indigenous citizens of the country who have lived and co-existed in what they consider their native land . fourteen centuries of Islam on Russian soil. In their thinking throughout the centuries Muslims took an active part in building what is called Russian Civilization.

When you also consider the lands that Islam penetrated early in its expansion were ‘not part of Russia at the time’ and only annexed to the expanding Russian Empire centuries later..then you understand why the difference between Russia and the West and how their views differ.

Lenin on Islam....

“Muslims of Russia…all you whose mosques and prayer houses have been destroyed, whose beliefs and customs have been trampled upon by the tsars and oppressors of Russia: your beliefs and practices, your national and cultural institutions are forever free and inviolate. Know that your rights, like those of all the peoples of Russia, are under the mighty protection of the revolution.”
