In regards to the Byzantine rites, the man has to be married first.

If I am not mistaken, that is why the bishops come from the monestaries.

This is a catholic caucus.

As Protestant and Byzantine have been mentioned with no prior objection from you, I ask the RM if the caucus label is still warranted.

Urban legend. Google "Synod of Elvira".

This requirement, like so much of Roman Catholicism, "evolved" over the centuries. It was finally ruled on at Trent in the 24th session.

It is yet another man-made rule of Roman Catholicism.

The NT clearly allows for clergy to be married.
