Catholic MP Introduces Bill to Legalise Same-Sex Marriage in Northern Ireland

Conor McGinn said he was 'living the message of the gospel in this Holy Week'

A Catholic Labour MP has introduced a bill that would legalise same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland, saying that he is “living the message of the gospel in this Holy Week”.

Conor McGinn, who was born in Northern Ireland but currently represents St Helens North in northern England, described himself as a practicing Catholic and hinted that God would approve of the bill.

“I am a practicing Catholic, now my parish priest would undoubtedly say that I probably need to practice a little bit more,” he joked.

He added that he had no trouble reconciling the bill with his faith.

“I have been asked about whether or not, given the position of the Church hierarchy, this conflicts with my own person faith. Let me say this as gently and I hope as appropriately as possible: the God I know is one of love, compassion and understanding. In showing that to others, in standing up for the marginalised and those denied their rights, I believe I am living the message of the gospel in this Holy Week”.

Northern Ireland’s governing assembly is currently suspended after its two main parties – the unionist DUP and the nationalist Sinn Fein – failed to reach an agreement to form a government.

Apparently denominational affiliation pretty much is meaningless. What is a Catholic? Or a Lutheran? or a Methodist?. There was a time within my memory where answers to those questions was fairly simple. No more.

Licensing of perversion. There's Gospel kindness for ya!

And you can easily bring the Author of our Faith up-to-date on this, if you will just take a few minutes and finesse the pages of the New Testament with an X-acto knife.

But I pause to remember this little warning from a few years back by a South American churchman on "same-sex marriage":

" Do not be naive: it is not a simple political struggle; it is a destructive attempt against God's plan...a 'movement' of the father of lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God." --- June 22, 2010, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, SJ, Archbishop of Buenos Aires

“The only one laughing is Satan.”

Oh, Pope Francis is probably chuckling, too.

" . . . the God I know is one of love, compassion and understanding. In showing that to others, in standing up for the marginalised and those denied their rights . . . "

The "god" he "knows" is not the God of the Bible. And does he realize that the people now being "marginalized" are precisely those Christians who uphold traditional doctrine? Does he get it that, as some people come out of the closet, others (Christians) are being forced into the closet?

the message of the gospel

Here's the REAL message of the gospel:

But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. - Mark 10:6-8

At this point, that might be redundant.

I would certainly have a problem reconciling the bill with mine. I know that sin is sin is sin, but when was the last time we saw anyone standing up for the rights, and having rallies and parades for bank robbers, or child molesters, or murderers? I won’t put it as gently as he tried to. The dude is a fraud.

In the case of Catholics the liberals feel emboldened because they have a liberal as Pope who hardly ever talks about social issues but never shuts up about gun control and global warming.

The Pope hardly ever talks about social issues...and he hardly ever talks about religion, well, about real Catholicism!

No doubt on that.

Not really. The Pelosi's, Kennedy's and Cuomo's prove that being "Catholic" usually means hard leftist.
