BBC Scotland Video Says Holy Communion ‘Smells Like Hate’
The Catholic Herald (UK) ^ | 4/13/18 | Nick Hallett

Bishop John Keenan of Paisley criticised the video for encouraging anti-Catholic prejudice

The Bishop of Paisley has criticised BBC Scotland after a video said Holy Communion “tastes like cardboard and smells like hate”.

The video was posted on the Facebook page of BBC The Social, a project aimed at young adults and managed by BBC Scotland, under the title “This is how homophobia feels in 2018”.

At one point it depicts a priest holding a Mini Cheddar in a parody of the Host, and giving it to a woman who makes the sign of the cross. The narrator says Jesus “saved a lot of time when he died for our crimes, that he would’ve wasted teaching small minds that love is no sin”.

He then looks at a street preacher, saying: “See him, he thinks it’s faith.” The video then cuts back to the women who received Communion and continues: “But under all that din, it tastes like cardboard and smells like hate”.

Bishop John Keenan of Paisley told the Catholic Herald that the video was “offensive to Catholics in both the words and images used”.

He said that while there is always room for debate, the video is “not fair comment”. “It is ridiculing and demeaning the faith of ordinary Catholics,” he said, “especially at a time when Catholics are experiencing more and more abuse and prejudice in Scotland.”

“The BBC has to be careful,” he added. “It has to ask itself if it has ceased to be a broadcaster in the public interest, and is just promoting particular interests.”

“You cannot imagine it treating any other religion like this.

Satan knows who he must battle to win the culture war. He has no chance of victory but can cause much trouble.

Question to Freepers on the eastern side of “The Pond:”

How is this video not incitement to hatred when far less virulent remarks directed at say, LGBT or Muslims, will get you, at a minimum, a visit and a warning from the local constables?

Is there not even the pretense of equal application of the law anymore?

Maybe it is just me, but the Catholic Church seems to be under attack in the press more in the last few years than I can remember.

I am only 57 so not extremely old. I know that during the 1800’s there was a lot of anti-Catholicism in the US. Britain has always been anti-Catholic since Henry VIII. But it seems there has been a resurgence in anti-Catholicism since Homosexuals have become a protected minority of the Left.

Catholics have been thrown in with Conservatives for unrelenting attacks. Just my view of things. Considering that Catholics have been a bulwark of the Left in this country it seems a little odd.

The Democrats must have chosen LBGT over Catholic. Or they are guessing that Catholic Democrats are going to chose Leftism over their faith. In my family at least they chose wisely.

Charles Coloumbe was on C2C last night, very good information. Should be on youtube in time. Didnt't like the last guy on reincarnation. Can't remember the first one offhand.

Charles seemed more like a traditionalist years ago, it didn't come out but he did mention a new book published by TAN which is trad. A lot about the need for more exorcists and gave some details of how priests have to prepare for it.But it was also about other matters Catholic.

C2C will have a link to Charles' site and book.

Then in answer to a family member question, I looked up historical evidence for Jesus. I knew about Josephus and the Talmud. And early Christian writers not in the bible. The Guardian did a pretty good piece on it. Very illuminating.

These attacks are coming from the most powerful people in the world otherwise it would not be on BBC. This is not a small group of people passing out leaflets. It is Luciferian and is the official religion of the New World Order. Look up Tavistock Institute and you will learn who actually thinks up all of these attacks on the culture.

That’s easy - if you insult a Muslim he’ll saw your head off.

Christianity was once so vibrant in Scotland that the Scots were known as the People of the Book. But that apparently was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

It smells like hate to those who know they are under God’s judgement and refuse to repent.

I don’t need one sense to irrefutably know Islam IS hate. The war against Christianity continues.

Your comment, coming four months after the thread went cold, took me a few moments to associate with the original article, etc.

That said, the general sense I take from your remark is that the journalistic insulting remarks and mocking of Christian religious practices would be a lot less frequent if there were real physical consequences for the journalists and their enablers.

But, as you point out, that strategy, undistinguished retribution for real or imagined insult, carries within itself discredit and defeat for the underlying cause, no matter how noble it may be.

At base, the issue is anger, what is its source and what to do about it. The article is a layer cake of incident, retribution, pettiness, and revenge going back to the beginning of human history, if we care to trace it that far. To break this cycle requires a willingness to forgive and a willingness to be forgiven.

But forgiveness requires the real power to punish and the receiving of forgiveness requires genuine acceptance that the act(s) in question are, in fact, an offense.
Neither side has the requisite attributes.

Those who in the past opposed homosexuality and gay marriage have, in the name of tolerance, created a state which is increasingly secular and hostile to religion as more and more of its citizens become nonreligious. More importantly, its cultural and political leaders have become so morally compromised that every denunciation of evil now requires a pause to calculate how their political constituencies will react.

On the other side, persons locked in self-defeating sin have, through patient subversion of institutions, unfettered themselves from moral condemnation and convinced many others that what was sin is not sin but simply a difference to be celebrated.
