It is sadly, a mess from Rome down.

Today in USA TODAY; there is an article about a Catholic priest who abused at least 166 children and was not criminally punished.

I suppose that if I were Catholic, I would want to also presume the man in the priest garb was impersonating a priest, as opposed to being a real one.

This kind of story (your link) makes no sense to me at all. When I was growing up, in a solidly Catholic environment, there was nothing we thought more horrifying than the idea of sexually abusing a child. It seemed to us unspeakably horrible, on a par with devil-worship or murder. In fact we still see it that way: your mind and and soul and every cell recoils from the evil.

How this guy (in your USA TODAY link) could have said he "didn't know" it would be harmful to the child or to the Church, is bizarre.

All I can think is that sin of this sort makes people so deluded that they just can't think anymore.

That person is a homosexual pedophile. (I was betting he was when I saw the number of children abused. High numbers correlate with homosexuals) Homosexuals in general are mentally ill and the pedophiles are more extreme. Catholics ignored this problem as just another sin for too long. I had some hope that things were moving in the right direction until Pope Francis was elected. Now not so much.
