[UK] Government to Ask Straight Couples if They Would Like...a Civil Partnership Instead of Marriage
The Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 5/12/18 | Staff Reporter

Straight couples will be asked by the Government if they would like the option of having a civil partnership rather than getting married.

Minister for Women Victoria Atkins is to launch a poll on the issue this month.

The move comes before the start of a Supreme Court case tomorrow challenging the law restricting civil partnerships to same-sex couples.

In a civil partnership - which came into law for same-sex couples in 2005 - a couple is entitled to the same legal treatment in terms of inheritance, tax, pensions and next-of-kin arrangements.

Last night, a spokeswoman for the Equal Civil Partnerships campaign said: 'If the government is allowed to have its way, it could be a decade or more before all couples have the same choice of marriage or civil partnership.

'Both the court of appeal and the government itself agree that the current situation is unfair and sustainable but all we are getting are delaying tactics.

It sounds like a trick question. If you answer “no, I’d prefer a marriage” they’ll put you on a watch list of “haters.”

I’d like to see ‘marriage’ reserved for religious institutions and a mere ‘civil union’ be the only thing a government can confer.

Why are they asking the straight couples? Why dont they ask the faggots and sodomites too? In hindsight, non-conservative couples ruined the sanctity of marriage so its best to start as a partnership or whatever you call it.

I’m starting to agree with you. Civil marriage with government permission is a relatively new phenomenon, mainly for taxation purposes.

A marriage before God is more valuable.

I’d like a civil partnership, but I think I’ve been married too long to ask her to be civil to me...
:-))

What is the difference between a civil pArtnership and a civil marriage? The state cannot sanctify a marriage.

But in the UK state and church are joined ever since that great theological debate over whether the king could divorce his wife rather than beheading her.

I never understood why a couple would want a government to sanction their relationship. I would be happy to have the govt not know i specifically exist.

I prefer to see the approach that was considered a couple of years ago in Oklahoma ... where the state legislature had drafted a bill to stop issuing marriage licenses and eliminate all references to "marriage" from the state code.

This is the best way to deal with the introduction of abominations like "gay marriage" in the law.

Marriage should be a private contract between a husband and a wife.

I once said that to my state representative when he sponsored a bill to require registration of home school families.

I lived in Michigan at the time and reminded him of the recent news of the 19% graduation rate of Detroit public schools and that was something he had jurisdiction over, not my family.
