‘I Know China’ – Cardinal Zen Sticks to His Guns in Fight Against Vatican Deal with Beijing

Hong Kong’s Cardinal Joseph Zen, 86, is continuing a one-man fight inside the Catholic establishment to oppose a deal between the Vatican and China over who can appoint bishops in the officially atheist country.

A potential agreement between the Vatican and Beijing was reportedly in its final stages in March – though Zen often called it a “deal with the devil” and a “complete sellout.” Perhaps – in part – because of his efforts, the critical voices he inspired, and the ever-harsher suppression of religion in China, the Vatican now says the deal is not going anywhere soon.

“I had a very special experience. I know China. I know the church in China. I have worked seven years, spending six months a year from 1989 to 1996 in [government-recognised churches] teaching the seminaries,” Zen, born in Shanghai to Catholic parents, said in an interview with HKFP.

“I met so many people, people of the government, people of the church, so I really know the situation. I see how the church is being persecuted, and the bishops are being humiliated. I think nobody else has had such experience,” he said at his home – the Salesian House of Studies built in the 1930s on a Hong Kong hillside.

“the Vatican now says the deal is not going anywhere soon”

When you read down further, “not soon” is June.

It looks like the Lefties in the Vatican (Cardinal Pietro Parolin) are continuing to move toward selling out the Catholics in China - at the same time that China is moving toward a dramatically more extreme policy of controlling and eradicating all religion.

Along with eliminating term limits for the President, they also enacted a law that no minors may enter religious facilities.

The horrific abuses that the communists have showered on the Tibetan and Mongolian Buddhists, the Uighur Muslims, and the Han Chinese Falun Gong practioners, are being extended toward Christians.

The communists want the Vatican to accept their chosen intelligence operatives as bishops, even though they have children and active girlfriends. It looks like despite saintly clergy like Cardinal Zen, the Vatican is still on track to hand the Chinese faithful over to these wolves in sheep’s clothing.

I keep telling my Catholic friends to start their own Church, The Roman Church is no longer a Christian Organization. As a former Catholic for over 50 years, I feel justified in saying this.

“The Roman Church is no longer a Christian Organization”

John Paul II was in their between this guy and Vatican II.

People come and go, the Church remains.
