Cardinal Burke: Irish Catholics ‘Did Not Receive Support from Rome’ in Abortion Battle

WARSAW, June 13, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Ireland’s recent caving into the globalist agenda of abortion and same-sex “marriage” is partly due to silence coming from Rome, American Cardinal Raymond Burke said in an interview last week with Polish weekly “Sieci” magazine.

“In Ireland, during the campaign before the referendum on protection of the life of the unborn, just like before the previous referendum on so-called same-sex ‘marriage,’ people fighting in these battles did not receive support from Rome,” said the cardinal, “and [its own] bishops themselves defended moral principles too weakly.”

Burke called what happened in Ireland evidence of an “alarming” situation in the Church. One problem, he said, is that leaders within the Catholic Church herself are casting doubt upon Church teachings.

“There is no doubt about that,” the cardinal said. “The situation in the Church is alarming. This is above all because fundamental truths of faith are being undermined and questioned.”

“Moral teaching tells us that certain behaviors are evil, always and everywhere, and that they cannot be called good under any circumstance,” Burke continued. “This applies to sexual activity with a person of the same sex, and also to extramarital sexual relations. Now consent to this kind of practice is appearing also in the Church.”

“I repeat: it is very alarming. Currently there is also an absence of a strong leadership from Rome, which could make these matters clear and remove uncertainty.”

Not to worry. Rome will be right beside you when you punish those who agree with President Trump’s immigration policies.

“Rome”...once again Burke can’t manage to call a spade a spade.

Burke is one of the (few) good guys. I’m sure he has no interest in attacking Trump’s immigration policies.

In the early 70’s until late in the 80’s, the Christians in America did not have the support of Protestant pastors etc...

The subject of abortion was referred to as “a Catholic issue” and dismissed or ignored...

Few if any were speaking out...

I joined a Catholic group to fight against abortion, there were no Protestant activists at that time...I marched with the Catholics in NYC and joined their rallies...there were few Protestants in attendance...Evan as late as 1992 across the street from Madison Square Gardens where the Democrats were holding their Convention that year to elect Bill Clinton...Few Protestants were protesting on behalf of little unborn babies..

Other than Operation rescue, who were fairly early and stood up to a lot of abuse, I’m not impressed by the “Johnny-come-latelies” who got on board years later because it was now politically and socially expedite and not because it is a moral thing to do...where were they years before ???

Why were people in their 40’s and 50’s silent when they were younger ???

Abortion was on-demand and needed to be addressed then by the people who are my age (70)...back then they were silent...Oh yes they’ll go all the way to Washington now for that one annual march just to be seen but their mouths were shut tight decades ago...

How dare they moan and wring their hands now...

During the 70’s North Dakota was about 12% Catholic but when polled about 80% of the people in that stat said they were against abortion...

Abortion was definitely NOT “a Catholic issue” then and it’s not now...

The pope saw fit to lend a helping hand to facilitate the bammy/castro deal, and the bammy/mullah deal. So he knows how to speak up and intervene in the affairs of countries that are not his own.

But he deliberately and intentionally chose not to intervene in Ireland and Argentina about abortion.

So, obviously, what’s more important to him? Punishing a productive country (USA) and rewarding communist/*slamic dictatorships.

He must resign.

He forgets that there is new sheriff in town, not one to mess with.

“Intervening” is fully the responsibility of the bishops in those countries. Or their failure. Blaming the pope for election results (esp with those huge margins) is a bit unfair.

And don’t worry, he will resign.
