Remember how, after Harvey Weinstein was busted as a serial sexual abuser, it emerged that a whole lot of people knew this about Weinstein, but never said anything about it? The same thing is true about Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who was outed today (by the Catholic Church) as having sexually abused a minor years ago.
I had never heard that McCarrick abused minors, but I heard from many sources that he would go after seminarians. He had a habit of inviting them to his beach house, and always inviting one more young man than there was bed space for. The unlucky mark had to bunk with the Archbishop, who loved to snuggle...
...In 2012, I was approached by a freelance journalist working for The New York Times Magazine on this story. Someone had told him to contact me, that I might be able to help him. It turns out that he didnt need my help. This journalist had done what no others had been willing or able to do: found court documents about Uncle Teds settlements with adult men he had forced himself on, and land at least one on-the-record interviews with a victim.
The man, I was told, was an unwilling victim, but allegedly let McCarrick get away with it because as a bishop, McCarrick was in a position of total power over his future as a priest. It was the exact same reason that actresses submitted to Harvey Weinstein.

God bless you for posting this.
Or Bill Clinton with sycophant fans and interns.
It was reported by lots of Catholic Media that McCarrick was part of the Lavender Mafia, a homosexual network of priests and Bishops, that looked out for each other. This is why the Media did not go down this path when the sexual abuse crisis came to light back in 2001-2002. Again, most of this was young priests in their 20’s abusing teenage boys 14 to 17. So that was the angle the media went with. Nobody wanted to touch McCarrick in the media. My guess is the documentation finally got through the channels in Rome (not buried by a friend of McCarrick in Rome) and Cardinal Dolan was told to personally investigate.
The incident from 1958 would be consistent with the stuff revealed in 2001-2002, McCarrick, 28 years old grabbed a 16 year old boy inappropriately. This incident was not known among Catholic conservative media 2001-2010, etc. The incidents of him harassing seminarians was out there. However, this would bring the question of homosexual Bishops using their power to weed out orthodox heterosexual priests (if they went public) and having access to seminarians with homosexual orientation who would be ordained as priests.
What happened in 1958 was a crime and sinful, what happened with the 3 adults is sinful (not a crime). Regardless, for me it is time for good faithful priests to expose the homosexual lobby. If that means Bishops with homosexual orientation like McCarrick are exposed that have done similar things, so be it.
It was kinda like the Village People naming the Navy, the YMCA, the Police and everywhere you could find gays. Everyone knows that Seminaries were where gays congregated. Gays were always safe in the priesthood.
Following the lead of the worst in the Church, the BGirl Sodomites of America are passing out condoms to boys and teenaged boys to use at mostly male jamborees. Gee, like there won’t be any massive sex abuse law suits against the BSA because of this and the conduct it virtually mandates.
I knew McCarrick. I taught two of his nephews in Catholic school in Throg’s Neck, The Bronx. One of them, a fireman in Ladder 40 died on 9/11.
Met him when he officiated at one of his nephew’s Confirmation. As he left to run to the rectory to change, my wife went into hysterics saying he looked so much like Monty Python’s Bishop of East Anglia.
I just started watching this (see below) on NetFlix earlier this morning. It’s a 7 part series. I watched the first three episodes. It’s quite sad/dark/evil. But there were/are some good women that went to this school who truly loved the young nun that was murdered. They have made it their mission to keep digging and to bring things to light as have others...journalists, etc.

It’s funny. Many moons ago, for my high school prom, I met him at my date’s house. Very nice guy. He was a family friend of their’s. I never heard any stories. A few years ago, I heard similar news stories on my old principal. I never heard any stories back in the day. Tough call what to believe without more facts I guess.
He officiated at my Confirmation more than 40 years ago.
Catholic Church in some areas is being bankrupted by lawsuits for what the priests did to youths. I see a church being sold after the rectory is sold. Do you want the city?
That’s all right, thanks. I’m intact.
Thanks for posting. Interesting article and comments...here and there.
McCarrick must have been common knowledge among many good priests because our priest in the 1990’s told us both Cardinal McCormick and Cardinal Mahoney were practicing homosexuals. Our priest was a wonderful, orthodox priest and he was very worried about what was happening in the seminaries at that time. There obviously are a lot more in the hierarchy that need to be exposed. They need to expose these men while they are still active and not wait until a man is 87 like McCarrick.
McCarrick and Wuerl hand-picked and devised the election plan for Bergoglio, which ‘St. Gallen’ followed (contrary to the half-informed blogs). So a homo, liar and pervert has chosen the pope, what kind of fellow is this pope?!
The entire article should be read. It is both fascinating and appalling. The level of complaisant moral corruption is gagging.
Not surprised indeed.
You are right it is not just the Catholic Church that has had this horrible scandal.
Thank-you and God Bless.
Not really. The media portrayed it as a "pedophile" issue, hiding the homosexual nature of it, covering for their fellow fags while simultaneously promoting a change in Catholic doctrine to accept and affirm sodomy.
That’s how I remember it too.
The John Jay Study showed it was priests and teenage boys. So yes, there was a homosexual dimension to it, but since it was legally minors that the John Jay report disclosed, the media could ignore the homosexual dimension of it. Take the case of McCarrick. There were 4 cases that were recently documented, the 1 in 1958 involved him grabbing a 16 year old (he was 28 at that time). The other 3 involved him harassing seminary students in their 20’s (homosexual dimension). Had the John Jay study documented incidents like McCarrick and the seminarians, the homosexual dimension could not have been ignored. However, while this is sinful (gravely) it did not under law warrant the state to intervene since it was not illegal under current U.S. law and the law at the time the sexual abuse crisis became well known, 2001-2002.
