Chicago Cardinal Praises Anti-Gun March on Local Highway

CHICAGO - Hundreds of protesters led by Chicago priest Father Michael Pfleger and anti-gun activists filled a major Chicago highway for about an hour July 7 demanding that city officials do something to stop gun violence in the city.

The march was preceded by a lot of discussion, right up to the march itself, on how much street space the protesters could take. Initially, they were given half of the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway, separated by a barrier made up of trucks, emergency vehicles and uniformed officers, but after more negotiations at the scene between Pfleger, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and local police officials, the marchers were given full use of the northbound lanes.

In a statement after the march, Chicago Cardinal Blase J. Cupich said he was thankful that city and state law enforcement officials cooperated to allow the protest to take place. “Now it is time for all of us, especially our leaders, to take up with vigor the concerns raised by our young people and all those who marched today,” he said.

Days before the event, he issued a statement applauding “the courage shown by young people in our city and across the country demanding their right to life and human dignity, given by God and guaranteed by our nation’s founders.”

“They make us proud. They give us hope,” he said.

He also defended what organizers said would be a peaceful demonstration, saying: “History has proven many times that nonviolent action and peaceful protest have the power to create change. The change we need in this moment is to end a culture of violence and indifference. This is a priority we must all embrace and for which we must all work.”

When Cupich was bishop of Spokane, he forbade his priests from participating in prayer vigils outside local abortion clinics.

Now in Chicago, he's suddenly in favor of protests and civil disobedience when the issue is guns. The guy is a total waste of space.

Never mind how many commuters had a ‘really bad drive’ because of these imbeciles!

Mickey Pfleger has always been an Obama Chicago pet, gun and Constitution hater, and has hidden behind his vestments when anyone questions his Leftist political activism.

I think he's trying to become the first black saint from Chicago, (He's white...), but everyone adamantly refuses to martyr him.

I'd label him a classic Maryknoller Communist, but I don't know, for sure.

He is wrong in so many ways, and uses his office to cause harm to others as the way to create some sort of nebulous change that has no reasonable expectation of doing good.

He would be much better off leading prayer.

This is very close to extorting and threatening people who have no real ability to do what you want them to do.

The “protest” march was not about guns or crime. It was about Father Faker trying to shake down Federal, State and Local governments for more funding for his phony Community Outreach Programs. Father Faker took big bucks for Midnight Basketball and had nothing to show for it. Cardinal Cupcake knows that if Faker was ever audited, the whole community outreach scam would fall apart.

Blocking cars and people, forcing them to stop when they have the right of way, is a form of violence. As usual, leftist loons control the streets while governor, mayor and police all shirk their duties to citizenry.

In a perfect world they could put the Popemobile on the road behind the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile and ram the protest. In this world it’s not to be, alas.

Yet there were still 23 shootings over the weekend. Guess the thugs forgot to go to the march.

How about a call to conversion for those within the city who engage in violence? The thugs who are shooting each other need to accept Christ’s salvation, and repent.

I would expect a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ to be concerned more about their souls than about liberal politics. But I would be mistaken.

Catholics can always impose a “stupid tax” - and stop sending money to this evil Cardinal every Sunday. Mr. Pfleger is supported by those collections, as is Mr.Cupich.

They don’t want to address the main people responsible for most of these shootings, so they’re not serious about stopping them.
