Paderborn circle of priests declare Abp. Hans-Josef Becker's directive 'unacceptable'

PADERBORN, Germany (ChurchMilitant.com) - A group of faithful German priests is resisting their bishop over intercommunion with non-Catholics.

On Tuesday, an association of priests in the western German archdiocese of Paderborn issued a statement condemning Abp. Hans-Josef Becker's decision to allow non-Catholic spouses of Catholics to receive Holy Communion on an individual basis.

"We note unanimously that this directive is unacceptable," declared the priestly circle Communio Veritatis.

Drawing from the Compendium to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Communio Veritatis declared: "In general, 'to receive Holy Communion, one must be fully integrated into the Catholic Church and be in the state of grace.'"

Quoting Pope John Paul II, the association reiterated Church teaching on intercommunion: "The rejection of one or more of the truths of the Faith about these sacraments ... means that the petitioner is not disposed for its rightful reception."

I went to Paderborn for Exercise Crested Eagle in 1980. I was the first 1st Cavalry Division trooper ever promoted in Europe. Good beer.

“””In general, ‘to receive Holy Communion, one must be fully integrated into the Catholic Church and be in the state of grace.’”””

I don’t recall Jesus saying this at The Last Supper”.

Sounds like the priest are the ones with a spine. Too bad the Bishop doesn’t have a spine.

But you don’t know what he said to them that isn’t written down — Holy Tradition — that was passed on from Bishop to priests from the time of Jesus and the apostles.

Are you claiming that Communion is restricted to Catholics?

Well up till Humble Jorge came along, Holy Communion was restricted to Catholics only, and only if they were in a state of grace.

I want to know how many priests belong to this assosiation, and what % of they are of all German Priests. Seems pretty relevant to a supposed news article. Am I missing something?

If you don't believe that the Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord, Jesus Christ, then you should not be allowed to partake of Communion in a Catholic church and yes, a host consecrated by a Catholic priest should be restricted to Catholics only.

Well and truly said, but unfortunately most Catholic laity today, and probably most of those living a consecrated life, would joyfully refute your statement in its entirety!

Spot on - they think they are Jonah and can decide who is worthy - God sent Jonah a clear message about Nineveh yet they persist.

They never seem to think of all those who lie to act as if they are 'in the [roper state of Grace" per catholic rules and never address that there have been pedophile priests "causing the miracle of transfiguration" and serving up the communion....

Seriously! That’s your explanation? I thought the Gospels were, well, Gospel!
