Theoretically it is possible that a Muslim or Jew could become Pope. But like I mentioned, it would take one pretty powerful and gifted political campaign mamager.
Just like you do not have to be an elected member of the House of Representatives to become Speaker of the House. But again, the politics would be pretty uphill.
