[Catholic Caucus] McCarrick And Power
The Wanderer ^ | August 18, 2018 | Christopher Manion

On Sunday, April 3, 2005, the day after the death of St. John Paul II, Theodore Cardinal McCarrick and at least a dozen other priests concelebrated the ten a.m. Mass at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Washington, D.C. In attendance were, among other dignitaries, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy. Cardinal McCarrick came out to the pews before Mass, fully vested except for his chasuble, and greeted Sen. Kennedy warmly.

After the Mass, as the celebrants processed out, Sen. Kennedy stood up and took Cardinal McCarrick’s arm. Beaming, they strolled arm in arm down the aisle toward the exit.

At the time, I interpreted this charade as just another clever, cynical, and defiant public confirmation of what we already knew. Kennedy was the most powerful Catholic pro-abortion pol, and McCarrick the most powerful prelate in country. The message? Don’t worry, bishops won’t criticize pro-abortion politicians because they need the federal money (McCarrick went on to confirm that accord in a speech to the Canadian Bishops’ Conference a year later). And bishops would be largely silent about the entire teaching of the Church dealing with sexual morality.

Cardinal Dolan also acknowledged that the bishops had suffered from “laryngitis” on Humanae Vitae for fifty years. That’s why they hadn’t taught any other tough moral truths of the faith either.

Things happen when you are smack dab in the middle of a schism.

"Another ten years later, Timothy Cardinal Dolan admitted that most bishops had decided that they wouldn’t “go to the mat” to follow Church law on canon 915."

They consider themselves to be "above the law."

Canon Law. Civil law. Church Law. Natural Law. God's Law ... All Law.

Manion says --- with a confidence that surprises me--- that now they're at the end of their tether. I hope he's right.

I certainly know less about it than he (Manion) does. My own hunch is that it's going to take a much more comprehensive collapse of the whole USCCB power structure. The Bad Guys have very far-reaching branches and very deep roots.

And the so-called "good" bishops don't denounce them.

Nobody said a word --- nobody made a peep --- until the police and subpoena servers were pounding on the chancery door.

Mario Cuomo, NY Governor {January 1, 1983 – December 31, 1994} was granted a mass Of Christian burial at St. Ignatius of Loyola RC Church and buried in St. John Cemetery(RC) with the approval of Servant of God, Cardinal Cooke.

I don’t remember much about Cooke, but I remember at the time being outraged! An unrepentant ‘abortion rights’ zealot like Cuomo should be not have been worthy of such honors.

Cooke is a key figure in Randy Engel’s book, The Rite of Sodomy. He was the one who groomed McCarrick.

I am sickened to learn that. I thought he was a good guy.

I’ll never read Engel’s book. I am a revert who HATED the Church 30+years after the Msgr. molested me in the Sacristy.

I forgive him now, and I ask God to forgive him, as well.

Correction, it was Cardinal Edward Egan, NOT Cdl. Cooke I was mistaken...
