Defending Pope Francis, Vatican Allies May Strengthen ViganĂ²... [Self-Parody Rules] (Cath Caucus)

ROME — Retaliating against a remarkable campaign from within the church to force the ouster of Pope Francis, the Vatican’s former spokesman issued a statement on Sunday night questioning the credibility of [Vigano]. Vatican officials and the pope said that he had ambushed Francis in 2015 by setting up a private meeting with Kim Davis, who became a conservative celebrity by refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

On Sunday, Father Lombardi issued a joint statement with [Francis-spox] Rev. Thomas Rosica, noting that Viganò had spoken the night before the meeting (with Kim Davis) with the pope and his collaborators and had received a consensus.

Father Lombardi and Father Rosica nevertheless said Francis had felt “deceived” by Archbishop Viganò. [This has] less to do with her role in the fight against gay marriage than with her own marital history. “You never told me that she had four husbands,” the pope protested,...

This week, an article in The New York Times quoted a Chilean abuse survivor, Juan Carlos Cruz, as recounting that Francis had told him that Archbishop Viganò sneaked Ms. Davis into the Vatican Embassy in Washington for the private meeting. The pope told him he had not known who she was or why she was a contentious figure, Mr. Cruz said.

Mr. Cruz recalled the pope saying, “I was horrified and I fired that nuncio.”

Archbishop Viganò, in the letter published on Friday by LifeSiteNews, a conservative Catholic outlet, said Mr. Cruz’s account had prompted him to set the record straight.

“One of them is lying: either Cruz or the pope,” he wrote. “What is certain is that the pope knew very well who Davis was, and he and his close collaborators had approved the private audience.”

On Sunday, the pope’s allies seemed to confirm that.

I put "humor" in the Topics and "ludicrous" in the Keywords because this is truly John Semmens level, Babylon Bee or Onion material. The Grima Wormtongues at the Vatican (Rosica and Lombardi) are honest-to-God flailing around in the self-parody zone.

OMG! Kim Davis was married four times! And we all KNOW how embarrassed and intolerant Pope Francis is about any hint of irregular marital situations!

You wouldn't expect him to be in the same room with uh, uh, that woman, a Pentecostal Divorcee, would you?

Whoo. Catching my breath.

Have at it, Mr. Semmons. You do it much better than I.

perhaps the first “reform” to help Drain the Church Swamp would be to ban Viagra and sex toys from the Vatican and all church properties (monasteries, etc.)? It would at least be a good symbolic step forward...

Too bad Kim Davis wasn’t in Bath Co., KY. The Wife of Bath had 5 husbands.

Well, considering Francis didn't "fire that nuncio," I guess it must be Francis who's lying.

The Pope resembles Obama in both thought and deed. Obama high-jacked the democrat party to radically change the country.

The Pope is high-jacking the Catholic Church to radically change the world. Obama showed more concern for illegal immigrants than Americans.

The Pope is more concerned about migrants than the sexually abused youth of the Church.

Obama used the organs of government to crush his enemies. The Pope is doing much the same with the offices of the Church.

Maybe we are missing the more significant point! The warm friendship between Juan Carlos Cruz (abusee, payee, homo and jetsetter) and Bergoglio.

Interesting angle. Bergoglio confides in Juan Carlos Cruz that he'n'God love him just the way he is (dude: you're perfect, stay as sweet as you are) and detests "that woman", Kim Davis and was infuriated to be in the same room with her. Whatever.

I keep thinking I couldn't be more disgusted with the lying, devious Bergoglio, and he keeps challenging me by going lower still. This idea that he and Cruz are now BFFs and Davis is called "horrifying" behind her back (but "courageous" to her face)--- what a solid deposit of the outhouse kind.

This is all a near occasion of sin for me, morally dangerous, because it assails me with a kind of anger and cynicism that I don't handle well.

I need a cleaner, purer, more accurate anger.

I need to detest this pit of filth but still love those who are neck=deep in it.

Always begin and end with praying for their repentance and conversion.
